Asheville Parks and Recreation Offers After School Program

Asheville Parks and Recreation is now accepting registrations for the After School Program, offered in cooperation with Asheville City Schools. The program operates Monday through Friday, 2:30-6 p.m. The program offers supervised recreation and enrichment activities for children in kindergarten through 5th grade, and provides parents with licensed childcare options for teacher workdays, holidays, and snow days.

The After School Program is offered at two locations, Vance Elementary School, 98 Sulphur Springs Road, 255-5214; and Jones Elementary School (see bottom photo), 544 Kimberly Avenue, 255-5208. Transportation is available from Hall Fletcher to the Vance, and from Dickson and Claxton to Jones. Parents should check with their child's school office for bus assignments.

Daily activities include cultural arts, crafts, group games, special events, and homework assistance. Snacks are also provided at no extra cost through the North Carolina Child Nutrition Program.

Weekly cost for city residents is $45 for the first child, and $40 for each additional sibling, plus one-time registration fee of $25 per child. Additional fees apply for non-city residents. Subsidy vouchers are accepted.

Please contact the program location of your choice to register. For more information contact Amy Pruett at 254-6542, or email [email protected].
