 The Western Region of the Watercolor Society of North Carolina will host a "paint out" at The North Carolina Arboretum on Monday, June 23. More than 15 regional watercolor artists will be at work on the Arboretum grounds for the entire day recording the colors and shapes through drawings and paintings.
"We hope the artists will find this endeavor a pleasant time to study and work," say co-chair for the region Ann Vasilik and Pamela Haddock, "and that the visiting public will enjoy watching the artists create." Work produced from the event will be on sale at the Connections Gallery in the Baker Exhibit Center. Visitors to the Arboretum on this day can also enjoy Kaleidoscope, a landscape sculpture exhibit, on display in the gardens through October 31, 2008, as well as an oil painting exhibit by Waynesville artist Luke Allsbrook on display in the Baker Exhibit Center, and nature photography by Cynthia Walker in the Education Center. The North Carolina Arboretum is located next to the Blue Ridge Parkway entrance ramp at Milepost 393. From I-26, take Exit 33 (previously Exit 2) and follow Blue Ridge Parkway signs for two miles to the entrance ramp. Arboretum grounds are open 7 days a week. Property hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., April-October and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., November-March. The Visitor Education Center is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sundays from Noon to 5 p.m. Parking Fees: $6 per personal motor vehicle, $25 commercial vans and $45 tour buses.
