Asheville Area Arts Council Unveils Color For Annual Fundraising Ball

The who's who of Asheville can begin scouring boutiques for the perfect green attire now that the color for downtown's most fabulous party, the Asheville Area Arts Council Green Ball, has been announced. Partygoers will fill Asheville sidewalks with shades of celadon and chartreuse as they revel between four amazing parties during the June 25 fundraising soiree. The night's grand finale, the fifth and final party, will be held at the Orange Peel once again this year.

Green Ball organizer Amy Edwards says the fundraiser's color is as much a statement about fashion as it is about theme. "The new black for this spring and summer is lush shades of green," explains Edwards. "We liked how that tied into the theme of the ball as a color that can transport you, whether it's to a seaside escape or to planets in another galaxy. It's a color of fantasy."

Although tickets don't go on sale until April, arts supporters are already anticipating this year's event as a festive way to contribute to the backbone of Asheville's arts culture. Last year, more than 800 people attended the sold out Pink Ball, making it one of the most sought after tickets in town. The event also raised more than $60,000 to help support the Arts Council mission and further arts in Asheville.

Green Ball organizers expect this year's event to be the most successful party yet. "The buzz is already beginning, and it's just February," explains Edwards.

All proceeds from the Green Ball benefit the Asheville Area Arts Council, the umbrella organization for Buncombe County cultural agencies dedicated to advocating for the arts through such initiatives as providing funding opportunities for artists and arts organizations, exhibiting new and emerging artists, supporting Arts in Education, awarding arts scholarships to high school students and supporting Asheville's Urban Trail through marketing and tour management.
