It's never too soon to teach children about giving. That’s what initiated a school-wide food drive at Leicester Elementary School.
Leicester Elementary Food DriveNorma Welsh, a first-grade teacher at Leicester Elementary, thought it would be a great learning lesson for her boys and girls to collect items to be given to the needy. Ms. Welsh knew that Beverly-Hanks had started collecting items to donate so she and her class decided to join forces with the company to make a large donation to Hearts with Hands. After talking about the classroom campaign with Leicester’s principal, Diane McEntire, both agreed that it would be wonderful to expand the collection to the entire school. “The response was amazing,” Ms. Welsh said. “Teachers talked to their children about how our community and possibly others needed help this year due to rising gas and electricity prices.” In addition to their donations, Leicester students helped sort and box the food.
