Chrysler 300 Club International to Holding Spring Meet in Asheville Through Saturday

Area auto enthusiasts may find themselves doing a double take on local roads this week as the Chrysler 300 CLub International holds its Springs 2006 Meet in Asheville. Members from around the country, as well as from Canada and Europe, will be driving some of the finest examples of the legendary "Chrysler Letter Car" series.

Launched in 1955, Chrysler 300s were the first modern American production engines to generate 300 horsepower. The 1955 C300 and the 1956 300B won both the road course and the flying mile at Daytona. Down as "the Beautiful Brutes", series production continued for another nine years, ending with the 1965 300L.

These innovative automobiles were some of the original "Hemi" cars. They were also the first with ram inductions, a common feature on all modern cars. Drawing on the history of the letter car marque, Chrysler reintroduced the letter series with the 300M in 1998 and the current C300 models.

Members will be arriving on May 17. Activities during the 4-day meet include a tour of the Biltmore Estate, a road tour, and a visit to Wheels Through Time Museum in Maggie Valley, where the cars will be displayed on Friday afternoon. The public is also invited to view the cars and talk with owners on Saturday afternoon, May 20, in the First Baptist Church Parking Lot on Woodfin Street in Asheville.
