Nothing says "down home" in North Carolina like barbecue, classic cars and music. The WNC Historical Association is hosting the Yellow Jacket Classic Car Show and Barbecue Dinner at the former Biltmore School on June 15. The show is open to the public and free of charge; hours for the show are 10 AM-5 PM. The Car Show will feature hundreds of cars competing for trophies and prizes in 29 classes. The entry fee for the competition is $8 in advance and $10 the day of the show. Entry forms for the Classic Are Show are available at local auto shops, the Smith-McDowell House Museum, or on the Association's web site, www.wnchistory.org. In addition, the event will include music, a 50/50 raffle and a barbecue dinner prepared by the award-winning Cheerwine Championship Cooking Team. The national Cheerwine Team visit to Asheville is made possible by the sponsorship of the local Cheerwine distributor, Royal Crown Bottling of Asheville, Inc.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the WNC Historical Association, which runs the Smith-McDowell House Museum and is currently working to save the historic Biltmore School as a new Museum of Western North Carolina. Biltmore School is located at 390 Hendersonville Road (Highway 25 South) near exit 50 on I-40. For additional information, please contact the Association at 828-253-9231 or visit their web site, www.wnchistory.org.
