Colbond, Inc. announced plans to expand its production of high-quality industrial non-wovens for flooring, automotive and construction applications. The expansion project involves the investment of approximately $7 million and is expected to add at least 20 highly-skilled positions. Representatives of Buncombe County, the City of Asheville, the North Carolina Department of Commerce, and the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce were present.
President Bart Austin said, �We are grateful to state and local leaders for helping to make our expansion project a reality. We are truly in a highly competitive global economy and without the support of Buncombe County, the City of Asheville, the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce, the North Carolina Department of Commerce, and others, we would not be here today.� Bob Roberts, Chairman of the EDC of Asheville-Buncombe County, commented that �Colbond�s investment in new technology helps to increase productivity and ensure excellent career opportunities for a skilled workforce.� �We are thrilled to have an internationally-recognized producer of high-quality non-wovens embrace expansion in our community,� stated Nathan Ramsey, Chairman of the Buncombe County Commissioners. �We commend Colbond for its vision and for providing Asheville with career opportunities.� Asheville Mayor Terry Bellamy commented on the City Council�s support for Colbond and its employees. �Asheville is noted for its diverse economy. We are excited because this expansion increases Asheville�s growing global business presence.� Colbond is headquartered in Arnhem, the Netherlands, and has production facilities in the Netherlands, Germany and the United States. Regional sales offices are located all over the world. The EDC of Asheville-Buncombe County is a public-private partnership dedicated to the continuous improvement of the local and regional economy and well-being of its citizens. During the past five years, the EDC has been actively involved with projects with a cumulative investment of over $351,350,000 and project employment of over 2,683 persons. The EDC is funded by Buncombe County, the City of Asheville, and the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce. The Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce is a 2,000-member organization representing 86,000 employees. Chamber members collaborate with community organizations and coalitions to support the community and each other with the mission of increasing the region�s livability by advancing its economic vitality. The Asheville Chamber works diligently to ensure that Asheville continues to grow and prosper while also protecting the natural beauty of the area.
