A new celestial adventure awaits The Health Adventure’s outgoing President and Chief Executive Officer this summer.
The Health Adventure announced recently that Dr. Todd Boyette has officially accepted the director position at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Morehead Planetarium and Science Center – one of the largest planetariums in the United States. “It is with bittersweet emotions that I have decided to move to Chapel Hill and take this new position,” Dr. Boyette said. “My family lives near the Chapel Hill area, and I am overjoyed by the opportunity to work near – and play with – my family as my two children grow. “It seems as if the stars were in alignment when this job was offered to me and I’m incredibly happy, but I will definitely miss the families we serve, the talented staff members who make the museum such a trusted community jewel, and the museum’s founders and longtime friends.” Dr. Boyette, who joined The Health Adventure in 1999 as its President and CEO, has led the museum through effective strategic planning processes and has been vital to the museum’s growth as a nationally recognized family health and science attraction. Among the many successes Dr. Boyette achieved during his tenure at The Health Adventure, perhaps the most visible include bringing popular blockbuster traveling exhibits to the museum, such as Busytown and Can You Tell Me How to Get to Sesame Street?. He also administered numerous grants, including two National Science Foundation grants to create and build state-of-the-art traveling education exhibits and a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences to produce a new traveling science stage program and interactive companion CD with music and instructional activities.
Sam Stickney, Chairman of The Health Adventure’s Board of Directors, stated, “The Health Adventure has been fortunate to have Todd Boyette directing its vision for the past seven years and we hate to see him leave as the museum grows in our center of influence on children and adults living in and visiting the western North Carolina area. Todd has accomplished much for us. His community impact has been solid while professionally directing us toward the goals of our strategic plan.” Stickney also stated, “Our Board of Directors is presently working diligently toward completion of a plan to provide new President/CEO leadership and when that preparation is complete a public announcement will be made. We continue to be very excited about The Health Adventure’s future.” The Health Adventure is a nonprofit family health and science attraction for today’s families with a mission to improve health awareness, promote wellness lifestyles, and increase science literacy through programs and exhibits.
