LYLAS, Asheville's first all-female sketch comedy troupe, will be holding auditions on Saturday, Septmber 29 from 1:00-4:00 pm at at NC Stage Company: 15 Stage Lane Asheville. LYLAS seeks local women who are comfortable performing for an audience, who enjoy writing, and are familiar with the concept of sketch comedy. No prepared audition material or previous stage experience is required. Those interested in auditioning should arrive at 1:00 pm.
LYLAS (an acronym which stands for "Love Ya Like A Sis," commonly found scrawled in yearbooks and across the bottom of notes passed between girls) is a collaboration that began between six Asheville women: Jenny Bunn, Sarah Carpenter, Beth Keefauver, Emily McClain, Emily Miller, and Betsy Puckett. LYLAS writes and performs original sketch comedy shows that poke fun at Asheville locals and newcomers, and the city's familiar faces and institutions, with celebrity jabs thrown in for good measure. Written, directed, and performed by women, but without any pesky political or social messages, LYLAS is just plain funny. LYLAS has consistently sold out performances for their past four shows (Humorgasm: A Valentine's Show, West Asheville Side Story, W-ASH TV, and W-ASH TV: The Re-run), and frequently has standing room only crowds.
