The Mimi Strang Studio Collective invites you to its eighth annual holiday sale in West Asheville. Already a West Asheville tradition, Mimi Strang Studios annual end-of-the-year studio sale features a roster of invited guest artists. Exhibiting along with Mimi are Simone Wilson, Lou Anne Jordan, Stacey Budge-Kamison (of UrbanGypZ), Susan McBride, Leslie Fay, and Terry Taylor.Mimi Strang began working in ceramics, but her interest in other materials soon became apparent as her work became more sculptural. She now works primarily with welded steel. Using found and stock partsnails, washers, and chainshe creates abstract pieces incorporating pattern, cloth, prints, and glass. Wall objects, garden art, and sculpture will all be featured. Be forewarned: Mimis idiosyncratic take on the traditional holiday ornament sell out fast. Simone Wilson is a self-taught painter and sculptor of mixed media works using salvaged materials and found objects. Characters and creatures of the Southern rural landscape inspire her paintings and sculptures. Shes well known for her whimsical figurative marionette style sculptures and this year, shell also be showing some of her plasma-cut steel sculptures for the garden. Lou Anne Jordan whips up handbags from tiny to tote-size. Using new and vintage fabrics, as well as leather she create bags with lots-o-pockets and sass. Pockets on Lou Annes bags also feature fabric prints incorporating the work of local artists. Stacey Budge-Kamison of UrbanGypZ offers hand spun art yarns and hand painted luxe yarns for the fiber fanatics on your shopping list. All are made from hand-selected fibers with an emphasis on sustainability, and hand processed in small batches to preserve hand crafted and artisan qualities. If you arent a knitter, not to worry: Stacey will have some of her hand knit hats for sale as well. Artist and graphic designer Susan McBride will offer small whimsical, multi-media paintings. Her paintings frequently incorporate imagery from her childhood, Chihuahuas, birds, and whatever else strikes her fancy. Leslie Fays handcrafted polartec scarves appliqud with vintage kimono silk were popular at last years sale. In addition to scarves, this year shes stitching up potholders with cotton and kimono silk. Terry Taylor will be presenting a collection of handcrafted sterling silver jewelry. In addition to earrings and bangles, there will be cufflinks and simple stud earrings for the Beau Brummell on your shopping list. Terry will also have on hand an amusing selection of small collages featuring vintage dictionary illustrations on antique carte de visite and prints.
