More Campsites and Mapping the French Broad River Paddle Trail

The French Broad River Paddle Trail is growing with support from key volunteers, teamed up with a group from NC Outward Bound School to assist the construction of one of RiverLink's no-reservation, free campsites. In August the group met the NC Outward Bound group and paddled in to the campsite.

The group help build a trail around the campsite, clear for access stairs and prepare the site for future tent pads and site work. The day was a great success and has prepared us for future construction on the site. We will be hosting another campsite construction day on Saturday September 8th from 9 am to 12 pm, email [email protected] to volunteer. We will be installing the tent pads and river access. We thank all of our volunteers and the great groups we get to work with, whom make our project possible.

The French Broad River Paddle Trail is a river trail from the headwaters in Rosman, NC to the NC/TN boarder just past Hot Springs. RiverLink has been working with the communities along the river, and individuals to build "Leave-No-Trace," non-reservation, and free campsites approximately every 8-10 miles along the banks of the river. RiverLink's French Broad River Paddle Trail will serve to protect the river as a resource for recreation, environmental stewardship, education, and economic development, forever. The Trail has been funded by the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina - Pigeon River Fund, The NC Adopt-a-Trail program and NC Recreation Trails Program, local residents, NC Fish & Wildlife Commission and Chaco.

Thanks to a grant from the NC Trails program RiverLink will be developing an online interactive map of the French Broad River Paddle Trail. The map will serve the community providing general information about the trail, campsite locations and descriptions, outfitters and guides, lodgings opportunities, campgrounds, shuttle and other visitor services, hiking trails, greenways and parks along the river corridor.

If your business provides services to paddlers, anglers, and the various river adventures, such as shuttle services, lodging, guide services, or equipment and you would like to be represented on the map please email the form below to [email protected].
