Posana Café on Pack Square Open for Business

Co-Owners Peter & Martha Pollay have opened their new restaurant in the former location occupied by the Cafe on the Square. Excitement has prevailed on this project from locals and tourists alike who have been sneaking peeks behind the papered windows in anticipation of the opening. The restaurant has been meticulously re-modeled with close attention given to sustainable building materials, engaging local and regional suppliers.

“We believe we can combine the service, image and tastes of a smart, stylish European coffee house with our dedication to local, organic foods, dynamic flavor profiles and sustainable methods of preparation and service,” said Executive Chef Pollay. Peter is a Culinary Institute of America graduate with past credits at Spago in Chicago, Park Avenue Cafe in New York City and Granita in Malibu, California.

The restaurant’s location, a drug store in the late 1800’s, is the former location of Martha Nell’s and Cafe on the Square. It became available in February, 2009. “This location sealed the vision and concept for us,” says Martha. "Honestly, it is one of those places in the heart of Asheville that should never be vacant.”

Posana Cafe will offer lounge areas with soft seating, indoor and outdoor tables and a large, special events room complete with 5.1 surround sound, a 119-inch HD projector and screen.

Hours of Operation: Sunday - Wednesday; 7:30am - 4:00pm and Thursday - Saturday; 7:30am - 11:00pm. When followed by a Monday holiday, Posana Cafe will also be open for dinners on Sunday night. "We are opening this Memorial Day weekend," reports Martha. "We know a lot of people are curious to taste and see what we have to offer. So it makes sense to open for dinner on Sunday too."

The restaurant mantra: "The Place To Sip, Snack and Relax," (tm) is reflected in the menu and crisp design. It will feature an ever-changing menu of fresh, seasonal foods made from scratch and inspired by local and regional farmers and purveyors. Fair Trade and Organic coffees, tea forte infusions, herbal elixirs and gluten-free pastries will also be a delicious compliment to this dynamic menu. Organic wines and locally brewed beers will also grace this stylish new setting.
