Southern Waterways and RiverLink will sponsor a river cleanup on the French Broad River between Bent Creek and the location of Southern Waterways on Amboy Road on Saturday, August 20, from 10 AM � 1 PM.
RiverLink and Southern Waterways are seeking 15-20 volunteers to cleanup the French Broad River from canoes. Volunteers should be willing to get wet, clean up the river, and have fun while cleaning up the river. Southern Waterways will be hosting the cleanup and will provide canoes, life jackets, transportation, and complimentary lunch for cleanup volunteers. RiverLink will provide technical assistance for the cleanup effort. Those who are interested in volunteering for this event are encouraged to call 828-252-8474 x.112 to make a reservation and to confirm cleanup date, time, and location (which are subject to change). Southern Waterways is a local canoe and rafting company based out of Asheville, providing quiet water river trips on the French Broad River. Southern Waterways is a licensed professional river outfitter; they can be accessed on the web at www.paddlewithus.com. RiverLink is a non-profit organization spearheading the economic and environmental revitalization of the French Broad River and its tributaries as a place to live, work, and play.
