Take a "Glide Through Nature" on a Segway�now at the NC Arboretum! Tours are available now, taking visitors through the Arboretum's 400+ acres at 8MPH. The new tour includes an instruction session and guided Segway�ride of the Arboretum trails and property.
Segway tours start at the Visitor Education Center with a 45-minute training session followed by a two-hour tour through the grounds of the arboretum, stopping at the Operations Center and other locations, as well as stops to examine plants and take pictures. They are offered at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. Sundays. Should be made at least a week in advance by calling Segway program manager Wes Wehking at 828-665-2492 or e-mailing [email protected]. Segways� can be safely enjoyed by all ages but a few requirements apply: Riders under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Capable of climbing a short flight of stairs unassisted. Weigh between 80 and 250 lbs. Pass the rider certification training (instruction session). Arboretum staff suggests that tour participants wear comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing, and bring drinking water. A hat, sunscreen, and a camera are recommended; helmets are provided. Costs for the tour packages are $45 - $65 per person. NC Arboretum Society Members receive 15% off Segway tours. The North Carolina Arboretum is a 434-acre public garden located within the Bent Creek Experimental Forest of the Pisgah National Forest.
