A long time Shiloh community leader will be honored in the very heart of the neighborhood where he worked for many years to make it a better place for all who lived there. Linwood Crump will be memorialized when the Shiloh Recreation Center is officially renamed the Linwood Crump/Shiloh Recreation Complex at a dedication ceremony at noon on July 15 at the center located at 121 Shiloh Rd. The Shiloh Neighborhood Association and the Asheville Parks and Recreation Department worked together to name the center for Crump.
Crump, who passed away in 2005, lived for more than 50 years in the Shiloh community where he was known for his advocacy in neighborhood improvement and his interest in the welfare of children. He worked to fight drugs and crime, and volunteered to coach hundreds of children in baseball, football and basketball. Much of his work and volunteer time was spent at the Shiloh Community Center. Crump's family will be joined by neighbors and community leaders throughout Asheville for the naming of the center. For more information contact the Shiloh Recreation Center at 828-274-7739.
