The Asheville Smoke Pro Hockey Team, in conjunction with the Asheville Smoke Booster Club, has initiated a special fundraising raffle to generate money for the hockey team.The recent filing of Chapter 11 Bankruptcy by the Knoxville Speed has adversely effected the Asheville Smoke's financial situation. In order to finish the season, the team is asking for immediate support from the Asheville community by purchasing raffle tickets for the "Save Our Smoke" fundraiser. Smoke owner Dan Wilhelm states, "We have been placed in a very difficult situation but have decided to be proactive and do everything we can to raise money in order to assure the team finishes the season and that hockey remains a part of this community for many years to come." In an effort to raise funds, the Hockey Team is conducting a special raffle. Through the donations of merchandise, services and gift certificates from local businesses, the team is hoping the fundraiser will generate enough money to finish the season.
"The Smoke need your help. Hockey belongs in the mountains and hockey belongs in Asheville," added Wilhelm. "If you like hockey or even if you just care about your community, buy a raffle ticket and get to a game to show your support." Raffle tickets prices are 1 for $50, 3 for $100 or 20 for $500 and are on sale now by calling the Smoke office at 252-PUCK. In addition, the Smoke has implemented a special "Save Our Smoke" Ticket Drive in which discounted group tickets are being sold. Businesses and corporations will also be asked to help "Save Our Smoke" by purchasing group tickets for their employees and customers for the remaining Smoke home games.
