NC's Favorite "Electro Jazz Fusion" Band, Sci Fi, Comes to Stella Blue on March 12th

Known for their marathon live performances, in recent years Sci Fi have become one of the Southeast's brightest up and coming Electronic/Instrumental music acts on the scene today. Rising on the strong shoulders of southern jazz, Sci Fi transforms its jazz roots into what it describes as "electro jazz fusion" and supplements it with new-age trance-tronic danceable grooves. Sci Fi will be appearing live at Stella Blue(Upstairs) on Saturday March 12th with NC natives BIG Something to open up the show. This will be the debut Asheville performance for BIG Something, who are creating quite a buzz all over NC w/their new album "Stories from the Middle of Nowhere," which has taken home some impressive awards this year from the Homegrown Music Network, including Studio Album of the Year.

Sci Fi is a three piece touring instrumental act out of Wilmington, North Carolina that is relentlessly pursuing the quest for human understanding through the art of music. With the positioning of notes and rhythms, they have developed songs that reach out and take hold, and it is their vision to share it with the rest of the world. Already becoming a favorite on the scene, Sci Fi has been a part of a handful of the largest gatherings on the east coast, and has shared the stage with countless national acts of whom dominate the instrumental circuit. Sci Fis unique musicality encourages appreciation by all listeners. Their style ranges from classical jazz, to trance-like tones of a high-energy electronic dance scene. Behind the scenes, Sci Fi can be found testing themselves with other projects in a studio or on stage, learning how to diversify their range, fueling the trio with unique sounds and techniques. The noteworthy strides, made in such short order, in addition to what the bands inner circle calls incredible new material and a powerful, evolving synchronicity, add to an already sharp sense of optimism. The charismatic trio of improvisational-minded musicians comes alive on stage amidst a richly crafted full-frontal sonic experience. Sci Fi offers a complete collection of original songs that is nothing less than hypnotic.

BIG Something is an ever-evolving, groove-based modern rock band from the middle of nowhere in NC. With unique electronic embellishments and an alternative feel, Funk, Soul and Rock n Roll are all fused into one savory package, well delivered in execution, says Evan Wade of behalf of Leeways Homegrown Music Network. Their debut album, Stories from the Middle of Nowhere, was recorded and mixed in Raleigh, NC by distinguished producer John Custer, who was previously Grammy nominated for his work with the southern metal band, Corrosion of Conformity. While the BIG Something is far from a metal band, their sound is still very large. The high-energy equation consists of great songs laced with massive drums, bass, guitars, vocals, keyboards, synthesizers, trumpet, and saxophones. Stories from the Middle of Nowhere, BIG Something's debut release, has won top honors as Home Grown Music Networks Studio Album of the Year and Homegrown's "Best New Band of the Year!"
