The North Asheville Tailgate Market, a Saturday morning tradition for those who love fresh produce, herbs and flowers, will reopen for its 31st season on Saturday, April 16, on the UNC Asheville campus. The market is open from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays and offers plenty of convenient parking.More than 40 vendors will participate this year and provide shoppers with a full range of local, sustainably produced vegetables, fruits, meats, eggs, artisan cheese and breads, herbs, plants, flowers, prepared foods and crafts. Janice Sitton, a Henderson County native, recently joined the North Asheville Tailgate Market as market director. She will handle customer inquiries, sponsorships, and day vendor scheduling. Sitton brings a wealth of event and project management experience to the market, as well as a passion for local, sustainable food. I worked on the WasteWise initiative for the San Francisco Ferry Plaza Farmers Market three years ago, and have been a regular farmers market shopper ever since, Sitton said. There is just nothing like the taste of local, seasonal foods, or the positive energy that you find at a vibrant farmers market. I am thrilled to be involved with the North Asheville Tailgate Market, and look forward to meeting all our shoppers and supporters this season. Sitton, a UNC Asheville graduate, resides in Woodfin. In addition to her work with the market, she also provides consulting services to the composting industry. Paul Littman, the previous market manager, will now be vending at the market.
