Mark your calendars for Saturday, January 24 and come on out to The Orange Peel Social Aid and Pleasure Club for a showcasing of musical talent. The T.C. Roberson Musical Performance Club is throwing a concert beginning at 4 p.m. with performances from four student bands. The show is open to the public and will be raising money for musical equipment for the club. Advanced tickets are on sale now and can be purchased for $7.00 at T.C. Roberson High School or at The Orange Peel. They may also be purchased at the door for $9.00 on the day of the event.
You can check out a sampling of sounds from the show by tuning in to “Local Licks”, a radio broadcast of 105.9 The Mountain. This program will be highlighting performances and interviewing two bands on Sunday, January 18 at 9 p.m. The students’ music will also be featured on 98.1 The River at 6 p.m. on the same day.
Loren Hord, Math Teacher for the Freshman Academy, sponsors the club which consists of 20-40 students from grades 9-12. The club meets every Wednesday and is designed to help students learn what it takes to be a performing musician. As a group, members work to organize concerts, promote local musical acts, set up recording sessions, form bands and analyze music, musicians and performers.
“We really want the public to come out to this event and support popular music education in the schools. We are excited to bring awareness to this club, our cause and the businesses that are kind enough to help us out,” says club sponsor, Loren Hord.
