The Western North Carolina Nature Center will be offering all City of Asheville residents free admission with proof of address as part of the annual Resident Appreciation Day on Saturday July 16th. Operated by the City of Ashevilles Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department since 2005, the Nature Center has enjoyed a great increase in attendance over the past few years due in large part to the addition of many new and exciting exhibits including Otter Falls, Red Wolf Run, Appalachian Station and most recently Appalachian Cats featuring a bobcat and two young cougars. Resident Appreciation Day is a great way for all residents of Asheville to be able to enjoy the fantastic animals at the Nature Center, says Chris Gentile, Director of the WNC Nature Center. We are proud of what weve added to the Center and want everyone to be able to see our improvements. In 2010, over 1,200 people visited the Nature Center on Appreciation Day. For more information, contact Chris Gentile, Director of the WNC Nature Center, at 828-298-5600 ext 303. The Western North Carolina Nature Center is Ashevilles wildlife park and features over 250 animals native to the Southern Appalachians including cougars, red wolves, otters, birds of prey, black bears, and reptiles. The Nature Center is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and welcomes over 100,000 visitors annually. (Image provided by the WNC Nature Center.)
