Neighborhood Groups Invited to Participate in Asheville Festival of Neighborhoods

The Neighborhood Advisory Committee (NAC) will hold the second annual Festival of Neighborhoods on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at A-B Tech in the Ferguson Auditorium at 2:00 p.m.

Asheville City Council established NAC to help strengthen the bonds of community and improve the quality of life for residents.

This year’s festival will feature workshops focused on identifying ways neighborhoods can be organized and successful.

The workshops will include:

  • Development and Sustenance of a Neighborhood Newsletter
  • The Circle Forward Governance Program: Shared Decision-Making and Implementation
  • Fundraising for Neighborhoods
  • Preventing Crime in Your Neighborhood
  • Creating a Vision for Your Neighborhood
  • Citizens Police Advisory Council and APD Strategic Planning and Partnerships

The afternoon will end with time for neighborhoods to network and share information over light refreshments.

“This festival is a great way for neighborhoods to get together and showcase what they are doing,” says NAC Chair Elaine Poovey. “This event should be a valuable opportunity to address some of our mutual community goals. We look forward to neighborhoods joining us in celebration of the good work occurring in neighborhoods all across our City. ”

To sign up to represent your neighborhood, respond by March 2 to Elaine Poovey at [email protected] and put Festival of Neighborhoods on the subject line, or call (828) 253-3514. Participants are encouraged to bring a display that tells the community more about their neighborhood, including the neighborhood boundary, population, history, community achievements and details about their neighborhood organization.

Parking is available beside the Simpson and Ferguson buildings.  Look for signs to direct you.
