Asheville National Night Out Designed to Build Community and Deter Crime

The Asheville Police Department, Asheville Fire Department, and the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office will host a local National Night Out event from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm on August 4th at Pack Square Park in downtown Asheville.

National Night Out is a nationwide outreach program brings neighborhoods together to strengthen community spirit and promote collaboration and trust between residents and local law enforcement. The event will feature food, inflatables, face painting, raffles and the chance to tour several public safety vehicles. Target Inc. is a nationwide sponsor of National Night Out and will be partnering with the City of Asheville to provide volunteers, as well as donate food and raffle items for the event. KISS Country FM will provide entertainment for both children and adults.

Community members are also invited to meet Asheville’s new Police Chief, Tammy Hooper, during National Night Out.

In addition, Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan and public safety officers from APD, AFD, and BCSO will provide tips about crime prevention and general home and personal safety.

After the event residents are encouraged to return to their neighborhoods for crime-prevention events.
