No Pets Left Behind Adoption Event a Success for Shelters

Asheville Humane Society’s first “No Pets Left Behind” adoption event was a huge success for participating shelters and rescue groups, resulting in the adoption of over one hundred WNC animals.

This past Saturday, Asheville Humane Society, Blue Ridge Humane Society, Foothills Humane Society, Macon County Animal Services, Madison County Animal Services and Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation offered reduced adoption fees with the goal of clearing their shelters.

Adam Cotton, Manager of Community Alliances at Asheville Humane Society, is very pleased with the overall results of the first “No Pets Left Behind” event. “Asheville Humane adopted out more pets in our first 2 hours of business than we usually do on a typical Saturday in its entirely! Partnering shelters have shared with us that this event doubled their adoptions,” he said. “It’s clear that joint social media promotion and collaborating the day of the event increased everyone’s adoption rates.” He added, “This event proved that shelters can save even more homeless animals in our region by working together.”

Asheville Humane Society plans to make this an annual event with even more WNC shelters and rescues joining the effort each year. Thanks to local media partners, social media shares, and visitors to these shelters/rescues, over one hundred animals are now in the loving arms of their families.
