3rd Annual WNC Garlic Fest on October 1st

The 3rd annual WNC Garlic Fest takes place October 1st in the South Slope district. Join the garlicky fun for free and experience garlic like you never have before!

In September, 2014, the first Garlic Fest took place in the parking lot of Sow True Seed. What was meant to be a small event attracted hundreds of garlic enthusiasts.

“We started off planning a few garlic growing workshops, but everyone got a little over excited,” says Sow True Seed Community Coordinator, Chris Smith. “Our accountant made garlic hummus, our tech-guy made garlic ice cream with garlic sprinkles and I made some honey-fermented garlic. We never expected Garlic Fest to be so popular!”

After the humble inaugural WNC Garlic Fest, the Sow True Seed team joined forces with Venture Local Fair in 2015 to launch a Southslope-wide street fair and celebration. Roots offered 45 lbs of roasted garlic hummus, The Hop made garlic ice cream, French Broad chocolate offered a garlic ganache. A total of 15 vendors formed the WNC Garlic Trail, offering free authentic garlic experiences for garlic fanatics from all across the Southeast.

Venture Local Fair is not taking place in 2016, but the folks at Sow True Seed want the WNC Garlic Fest tradition to continue and grow.

“Partnering with Venture Local Fair allowed us to see just how popular WNC Garlic Fest can be,” says Angie Lavezzo, Sow True Seed General Manager. “This year we’re inviting even more garlic related vendors, farmers and enthusiasts!”

Sow True Seed have secured event space on the South Slope and are inviting local vendors and businesses to also join in the fun by offering something garlicky on the day. South Slope boasts an incredible density of micro breweries, so WNC Garlic Fest can be enjoyed with a refreshing pitstop or two…
