NCDOT Seeks Feedback on Northern Buncombe Congestion

The N.C. Department of Transportation is seeking public feedback on proposed intersection improvements for Weaverville Highway and New Stock Road with reconfigured westbound ramps at exit 21 on Future I-26.

Comments, which are critical to the design of the project, may be submitted through Sept. 13, 2018 at the N.C. Department of Transportation website.

The project was entered into the state transportation prioritization process in 2015 with the goal of improving traffic flow and ease congestion. The project was submitted for funding with support from the NCDOT Division 13 and the French Broad River MPO.

Specifically, the proposed project entails:

  • Adding turn lanes to the reconfigured intersection of Weaverville Highway and New Stock Road.
  • The off and on ramp of the westbound Future I-26, instead of Weaverville Highway, will be the uninterrupted flow based on traffic volumes.
