Trout Unlimited Land-of-Sky

Energy Savers Network

Energy Savers Network provides repairs and upgrades to improve the energy efficiency of low-income households in WNC at no cost to them. Not only does this reduce demand for fossil fuels and make homes safer and more comfortable, it also reduces the cost burden of inefficient heating and cooling for those in need. Our volunteers are indispensable in this vital work, and we’d love for you to join us. No experience is necessary – we have tasks for folks at all levels of “handy” skills, and you may even learn something you can take home to cut down your own energy bills! Common workday projects include replacing older light bulbs with LEDs, installing low-flow showerheads, insulating attic hatches, cleaning and repairing dryer ducts, and more. Western Carolina Botanical Club

The Western Carolina Botanical Club (WCBC) was founded in 1973 by a small group of residents in Western North Carolina who wanted to learn about the plants of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. The mission of the Club is to identify and study native plants and their habitats and to advocate the protection of biodiversity in our natural world.

Dogwood Alliance

CarolinaHealth and Environment Community Center is a virtual center where individuals and community groups can find information about health and environmental issues.Dogwood Alliance is a growing regional network, comprised of 70 grassroots organizations in 17 states and concerned citizens from across the nation. We share a mission of protecting Southern forests and communities by engendering broad-based, diverse support for ending unsustainable industrial forest practices.

WNC Nature Center

The Western North Carolina Nature Center is the first place where area children meet the animals they have read about. Deers, bears, cougars, wolf, racoons, birds and even farm animals are there for all to learn about. Exhibits on area poisonous snakes are worth absorbing. An aviary, self-guided nature trail and petting zoo make this a great place for the family. Small admission fee.

Riverlink is a regional non-profit spearheading the economic and environmental revitalization of the French Broad River and its tributaries as a place to live, work and play.

WNC Green Building Council

WNC Green Building Council is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization whose mission is to promote environmentally responsible and health conscious building practices through community education.

Mountain True

Mountain True, previously called WNC Alliance, is a grassroots environmental organization that works to promote a sense of stewardship and caring for the natural environment. Citizens and chapters protect and preserve our natural land, water and air resources through education and public participation in policy decisions at all levels of business and government. They have chapters in Haywood, Buncombe, Macon, Jackson, Clay, Cherokee and Watauga Counties, as well as task forces dedicated to forests and public parks.
