The Mountain Shag Club Inc. was formed in November 1988 as a non-profit corporation and is a member of the Association of Carolina Shag Clubs. We have 100+ members from Western North Carolina, Tennessee, South Carolina and the surrounding areas. Our club parties take place in Asheville and Hendersonville, N.C. Asheville Nurse Support is a two prong support organization founded by nurses to provide professional leadership and development for nurses as well as offer unique support for caregivers and patients!
Nurse Support is unique in our ability to network and connect patients and caregivers in the complex health system to meet their needs for optimal patient outcomes. We are able to offer support to families in urgent, temporary crisis situations.
In addition we are continually striving to enhance the nursing profession through clinical coaching. We connect nurses and nursing students with one-on-one face-to-face education, mentoring and preceptors in a private setting with expert nurses.
Coping with Illness Support Group – Pathways Group is offered to people who have been diagnosed with a chronic illness. Group provides a place to share fears, hopes, treatment issues, beliefs and successes. Meetings are from 5:30 to 7:00pm on Mondays at Pathways-Life After Cancer
Girls on the Run is a life-changing, experiential learning programs for girls age eight to thirteen years old. The programs combine training for a 3.1 mile running event with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting workouts. The goals of the programs are to encourage positive emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physical development.

Club W, the YWCA Health & Fitness Center offers a fitness room with strength training equipment, weights and the latest technology in cardio equipment. For years, the 18,000 square foot YMI building was the social and economic center of Asheville’s Black community. Currently YMI is a cultural center operating with support from the City of Asheville. Its impressive Tudor-style structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and features four galleries and a 300-seat performing arts theatre.
