Last July, Chai Pani Restaurant Group made a long-term commitment to financially support two students in India: Dipali Kadam and Anu Madival. In partnership with the nonprofit Dharavi Diary, we provide full university scholarships for the two students that cover room and board, transportation costs, university fees, and tutoring. Charlotte Stack, our Director of Operations, and Molly Milroy, our Media and Communications Director, had the opportunity to go to Dharavi and meet Nawneet Ranjan, who runs the Dharavi Diary non-profit, as well as meet Anu, one of the students who we are now supporting. The mission of Dharavi Diary is to empower the youth, especially girls and women living on the fringes of urban & rural lower income communities through STEAM learning, storytelling and skill building to become problem solvers, innovators and leaders.
Next Wednesday, Jan 16th, at Chai Pani Asheville we’re hosing a give-back night and we’ll donate 10% of sales to Dharavi Diary. We’ve received a request from Nawneet for supplies: stationary, a projector, and other educational tools.
Because we have five of our staff members going to India in 10 days (YAY! More on that below) we’re hoping to send them with lots of supplies that we’ll purchase through the money from the give-back night.

Sending people to India, what? Yup, in just ten days we’ll be sending four of our dear employees on a 10-day, street-food eating, mind-blasting food tour of India, led by our VP of Operations and India-expert Isaac Clay. This has been a dream of Chai Pani’s ever since they opened their doors nine years ago. We’re SO excited! The trip was offered to all of our employees (110+ people) and those who were interested in being selected wrote an essay on why they were interested in traveling to India on how they thought it would change their experience working for Chai Pani Restaurant Group.
