ILLITERATE LIGHT (HARRISONBURG, VA)

Formed in the summer of 2015, Illiterate Light transcends expectations of the typical rock duo. Jeff Gorman elevates his gritty guitar melodies and honest lyricism by stomping out thunderous synth bass with his feet as Jake Cochran layers lush vocal harmony and explodes with body convulsing energy around his minimalist standing drum kit. Gorman and Cochran’s incessant writing, commanding live performance, and constant touring promise a bright future as they work with Vance Powell (Jack White, Kings of Leon, Chris Stapleton), Adrian Olsen (Foxygen, Natalie Prass), among others. Their new single “Better Than I Used To” is currently on NPR’s “Heavy Rotation: Ten Hot Summer Songs Public Radio Can’t Stop Playing.”

Spanning the better part of a decade, the creative evolution between Gorman and Cochran is far from typical. The duo has run an organic farm in the Shenandoah Valley, toured the mid-Atlantic by bicycle in several acoustic bands, and lived in small communities while pursuing modes of alternative education. Their eclectic background is mirrored in their sound and lyricism, floating between pools of postmodern confusion and rivers of vibrant optimism. Though shaped by the eclectic music scene of their hometown Harrisonburg VA, the duo has grown immensely through immersion in the thriving alternative scenes in both Richmond VA and Nashville TN.

LANDON ELLIOTT (Richmond, VA)

With a commanding voice that floats between the spirits of Chris Stapleton and Thrice, singer/songwriter Landon Elliott delivers earworm melodies and sobering lyrics drawn from his upbringing in small-town North Carolina to his move to Richmond in 2013. Elliott is ever in search of the human common denominator, pushing and pulling on stories with hooks and guitar riffs that call to mind early Kings of Leon recordings and Bruce Springsteen sonics. His debut LP will be released in early 2019 on American Paradox Records.

CLINT ROBERTS (Boone, NC)

JON CHARLES DWYER (Asheville, NC)
