Waynesville Homegrown Author Fair on Sept. 23rd

Award-winning author Miles Tager, author of Grandfather Mountain, a Profile, will be featured at the annual Waynesville Homegrown Author Fair on Saturday, Sept. 23rd.

The fair takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Waynesville. Miles will be one of almost thirty authors representing a wide variety of genres.

His nonfiction book, Grandfather Mountain, A Profile, tracks the mountain’s history from foundation about 500 million years ago through evolutionary and human development to the present day.

Grandfather Mountain, A Profile, was published in 1999, coming out of research gathered in a successful campaign to save the mountain from a ski resort development. Grandfather Mountain is the highest, oldest and most prominent mountain in the Blue Ridge chain, and one of the most unique places on earth.

The book won the North Carolina Historical Society Book of the Year award in 1999 and was part of a successful campaign to save the mountain from a ski resort development.

“Grandfather Mountain will always mean more than one of North Carolina’s leading tourist attractions,” said Miles. “It stands tall not only in the Blue Ridge Mountains but around the world as a geological, ecological and historical masterpiece. I hope this book duly honors that.”
