Grovewood Gallery in Asheville has several art and craft offerings for the month of October, including demonstrations spotlighting local makers in celebration of American Craft Week, which takes place October 5-14.

On October 12 and 13, contemporary landscape painter Shawn Krueger will be in the sculpture garden at Grovewood Gallery demonstrating plein air painting techniques and interacting with guests from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Shawn’s style favors the American Arts & Crafts and Tonalism movements – both based on love and respect for nature, hand-craftsmanship, and good design. His work has garnered a number of awards over the years, and his paintings are in dozens of private and permanent collections throughout the country. Shawn was featured in the June 2018 issue of American Art Collector and was also recently juried into the highly reputable Roycroft Artisan Guild based in East Aurora, New York.

On Saturday, October 13 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, Kendall White will be demonstrating the wet felting process she uses to create sculptural wool baskets and merino wool neck wraps. Kendall pursued her BFA in fiber arts at the Appalachian Center for Craft and later discovered her love for felting at the John C. Campbell Folk School. Her work can be found at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum Store and Gallery of the Mountains (Grovewood Gallery’s sister shop) in Asheville.

On Saturday, October 20, visitors to Grovewood Village will have the opportunity to go behind-the-scenes and tour the artist studios located next door to Grovewood Gallery (normally closed to the public). Tours are free and self-guided and will take place from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Meet makers who work in a variety of media, and browse original works of art ranging from jewelry to pottery to sculpture.
