Some good deals may sound too good to be true, but this one’s for real. The Rotary Club of Asheville is looking for a new signature project in the Asheville area and is willing to provide $5,000 and over one hundred volunteers to make it happen!
“Our club is already involved in projects that help feed hungry Western NC families, provide scholarships to needy kids, support veteran Honor Flights to DC, and send medical-dental teams to Honduras, but we’re looking for something new,” says club President Rick Devereaux.” He says the Rotary Club has a lot of new members who want to engage in a new project that they find, develop, and execute.
Devereaux says the new project must meet the following four criteria: 1) Address a “top-tier” community need; 2) Partner with a local non-profit, 3) Involve both financial support and volunteer “sweat equity,” and 4) Be an independent project that the club can put its brand on. “We’re looking for a high-profile opportunity that will make a difference for Asheville,” says Devereaux. The club is casting a wide net, soliciting project proposals from its members and non-profit organizations in the area. Those interested can download a project application at the Rotary Club of Asheville website and submit it to the club secretary no later than January 31, 2019.
Once the applications are received and reviewed, finalists will be invited to make a pitch at a Rotary “Shark Tank” event sometime in December or January where a project winner will be selected. “We’ve got money, energy, time, and a commitment to take on a challenge in our community, all we need is a project,” says Devereaux. “Our Rotary theme for 2018-19 is to ‘Be the Inspiration’ in our community. We want a project that will help us do that.”
The Rotary Club of Asheville is a group of active, engaged citizens interested in making friends, building relationships, and giving back to our community, both local, regional, national and international. The Rotary Club of Asheville is over 100 years old and is the largest club in our district with over 140 active members. We engage in projects that range from eradicating polio to supporting education, human rights, ending hunger and support for Veterans. Come check us out at one of our weekly meetings–no reservation is necessary. We meet each Thursday at the Renaissance Hotel in Downtown Asheville. Lunch is served, buffet style at noon followed by a program at 1230pm. The meeting is over by 1:30 pm each week.
