The 9th Annual VA2K Walk & Roll on May 15

Helping homeless veterans and promoting healthy lifestyles in the community are what the annual VA2K Walk & Roll event is all about.

The 9th Annual VA2K Walk & Roll will be held on May 15, 2019 at the Charles George VAMC from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

The VA2K event includes a short two-kilometer walk (approximately 1.2 miles) and the community is invited to participate.  The event is free and it is suggested that participants be at the Charles George VAMC at the Warrior’s Pavilion fifteen minutes prior to the start.

Participants are encouraged to bring a voluntary donation such as household goods, toiletries, packaged food, or bottled water.  These donations will be collected and distributed to local homeless Veterans.  Donations are not required to participate.

Nationally, since 2011 donations valued at approximately $2 million dollars have been raised for homeless veterans. “The VA2K Walk & Roll is one of the ways we encourage our staff to adopt healthy lifestyles.  In addition, it’s also a great way for them to help homeless Veterans,” said Steph Young, Charles George VAMC Medical Center Director.

Community groups who are interested in participating in the event should contact the local VA2K coordinator, Lauren Zaloshinsky at (828) 575-4542 or via email at [email protected].
