Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office Releases Mid-Year Crime Stats

Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office crime statistics show a decline in property crimes from January 1 to June 30, 2022, as compared to the first half of 2021. Breaking and enterings are down 24 percent, larceny/thefts are down 20 percent and stolen property is down 28 percent, reflecting a broad reduction in property crimes while assaults are up 10 percent.

To date, there have been two homicides in 2022 investigated by the Sheriff’s Office with suspects arrested in both cases. In 2021, there were a total of seven homicides investigated by the Sheriff’s Office, all seven of the homicides resulted in the Sheriff’s Office bringing charges against a suspect.
