Buncombe County Farmers Markets Offer Holiday Shopping in November and December

Even though it’s getting colder, you can still find fresh, local food at area farmers markets. Nine markets in Buncombe County will offer extended seasons in November and December.

In addition to seasonal produce, meats, cheeses, and bread, these markets will feature local artists and handmade goods, such as wreaths, pottery, jewelry, and more. Plus, four markets will stay open through the winter!

Below are Buncombe County farmers markets with dates in November and December. ASAP’s Double SNAP for Fruits and Vegetables and Farm Fresh Produce Prescription are available at starred markets.

Four Buncombe County markets will offer winter markets this year, with dates in January, February, and March. River Arts District Farmers Market will continue its winter market at its new Smoky Park Supper Club location in a covered pavilion on Wednesdays from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Weaverville Tailgate Market will host an indoor winter market at Weaverville Community Center on Wednesdays from 3 to 6 p.m. Asheville City Market will continue outdoors on N. Market St. on Jan. 10, running every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. And, new this year, North Asheville Tailgate Market will reopen its outdoor market on the UNC Asheville campus in February.

“Keeping up with customer demand, farmers have increased production in what was traditionally the off season,” says ASAP Farmers Market Program Manager Mike McCreary. “As more farmers are producing through the winter, more markets are expanding their seasons to give them a place to sell. It’s exciting to see market opportunities grow farmers—and for customers to be able to eat locally year-round!”

Outside Buncombe County, more than two dozen markets will continue through the holiday and winter seasons. Find a full list at asapconnections.org/farmersmarkets or search for markets by region at appalachiangrown.org.
