Holiday County Closure Schedule
Buncombe County Animal Shelter
The Buncombe County Animal Shelter will be closed Dec. 24-26 and Jan. 1. Additionally, the Animal Shelter will operate on a modified schedule on Dec. 31, opening from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Buncombe County Courthouse
Buncombe County courts observe the North Carolina Judicial Branch holiday schedule and will be closed Dec. 24-26 and Jan. 1.
Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office
Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office front desk will be closed Dec. 24-26 and Jan. 1; all other operations will be on a normal schedule.
Emergency Services & Public Safety Communications
Administrative offices will be closed Dec. 24-26 and Jan. 1. EMS and 911 will maintain normal operations.
Election Services
Election Services at 35 Woodfin St. will be closed Dec. 24-26 and Jan. 1.
Family Justice Center

The Government Services Center (home to Election Services, Asheville-Buncombe Air Quality Agency, Environmental Health, Permits & Inspections, and Planning) at 35 Woodfin St. will be closed Dec. 24-26 and Jan. 1.
Health & Human Services
BCHHS services will be closed Dec. 24-26 and Jan. 1.
Identification Bureau
The ID Bureau at 52 Coxe Ave., will be closed Dec. 24-26 and Jan. 1.
Mountain Mobility
Mountain Mobility will not operate on Thursday, Dec. 25. Only ADA paratransit will be served Thursday, Jan. 1.
Helene Resource Center and One Buncombe Call Center
The Helene Resource Center and One Buncombe Call Center will be closed Dec. 24-26 and Jan. 1.
Parks & Recreation
Parks & Recreation administration offices will be closed Dec. 24-26 and Jan. 1. Buncombe County Sports Park and Lake Julian Park will be closed Dec. 24- 25 and Jan. 1. All other parks are open. Three Buncombe County Parks remain closed due to storm damage: Owen Park, Karpen Soccer Field, and Alexander River Park.

Public Libraries

Register of Deeds
The Buncombe County Register of Deeds will be closed Dec. 24-26 and Jan. 1. Online services will remain available.
Solid Waste
The Buncombe County Landfill and Transfer Station will close at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 24. Both the landfill and transfer station will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Normal operations will resume on New Year’s Day.
Tax Collections/Property Assessment
Tax Collections office and Property Assessment at their new location at 182 College St. will be closed Dec. 24-26 and Jan. 1. The tax deadline is Jan. 5, 2026. Pay property taxes online at buncombenc.gov/paytaxes or at the secure drop box outside the office.
FCC Environmental: Trash & Recycling Collections
FCC Environmental trash and recycling collection services will not operate on Thursday, Dec. 25. Thursday pickups will collect on Friday and Friday customers will have collection on Saturday. FCC will operate on a one-day delay for customers with Thursday pickups on Jan. 1.
