Contrary to popular belief, there is currently more than enough food in the world to feed everyone on the planet. However, the world’s population is projected to grow to more than 9.8 billion people by 2050, and with increasing demand and growing constraints on the capacity of our food systems, figuring out how to feed the world’s population while protecting critical ecosystems will be one of the greatest challenges of our era.

Oracle Blue is enticingly unequivocal when it comes to genre-branding, marrying musical nostalgia with newfangled soundscapes. Under the banners of Swank-Pop and Alt-Jazz they craft for themselves a realm entirely their own with strong female vocals garnished by multi-instrumentalists in the rhythm and horn sections.
The band’s resume includes performances at Montreux, Vienne and Umbria Jazz Festivals, a DownBeat Student Music Award for Outstanding Performance in the Blues/Pop/Rock category, and the honor of being selected through competition by five-time GRAMMY Award winner Lalah Hathaway to open for two performances on her 2018 ‘Honestly’ tour. Their debut album, Gilded Kingdoms, is comprised primarily of original works, and also includes reimaginings of jazz standards “Don’t Explain” (Billie Holiday) and “On Green Dolphin Street” (Bronisalw Kaper). Gilded Kingdoms is available on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, and at OracleBlueBand.com.

Tellico Album Release Show with John Doyle at The Grey Eagle
Asheville-based roots-Americana band Tellico celebrates the release of their second album Woven Waters at the The Grey Eagle on Friday January 18th at 8pm (doors 7pm). The show will feature the band’s signature “Appalachiacana” sound combined with the unmistakable groove of the album’s producer, the renowned Irish musician John Doyle. The show also features Doyle’s own innovative style that has redefined the Celtic music genre. Tickets are available for this very special evening of music at www.thegreyeagle.com for $17 in advance or $20 at the door.
About Tellico and Woven Waters:
With their honest, heartfelt songwriting and unmistakable sound, Tellico crafts Woven Waters, an album that blends Appalachian sensibilities and British Isles influence, creating an eclectic set of poignant songs that speak to our modern times. The group worked with noted Irish musician John Doyle to create and record in real-time in the studio of Grammy-nominated engineer David Arnold in Johnson City, TN. The practice brought the group to uncharted territory in their musical landscape, built upon their core sound, but with an enhanced level of awareness to texture and melody. Augmented by Doyle’s contribution on bouzouki on much of the album, the chord choices, instrumental themes and rhythmic dynamics intertwine, carefully weaving together the natural flow of each song’s intent, and inspiring the album’s title.
Released in November of 2018, the album was #2 on the Folk DJ Charts in its first month at radio, also boasting the #1 song “Courage for the Morning” and #1 artist of that month. It scored impressively at #9 album of the year on Carolina’s WNCW-FM.
The album is a follow up to the group’s debut album Relics and Roses (2015), which gathered accolades from tastemakers and earned them appearances at some of the country’s most prestigious festivals (MerleFest, Bristol Rhythm & Roots, Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival). The group formed in 2014 from members of Asheville bluegrass bands Dehlia Low and Town Mountain.
At Tellico’s core is the voice of Anya Hinkle, evoking tones of Gillian Welch, Natalie Merchant, and Hazel Dickens. With arresting honesty, her singing and songwriting comes from the heart. Her foil can be found in fellow songwriter and vocalist Greg “Stig” Stiglets. Inspired by the events of daily life, his attention to melody and groove help to further showcase the instrumental prowess of the band.
Both Aaron Ballance (dobro, lap and pedal steel) and Jed Willis (mandolin, clawhammer banjo, electric guitar) hail from North Carolina, a state that itself provides its own conservatory for musical study. Both musicians are veteran players, having studied from first-generation roots music pioneers and serious practitioners of the genre in the classrooms of countless jam sessions, gigs, and bands through the years.
The four musicians deepen their awareness each year of the synergy among them while eyeing terrain that is yet uncovered. http://www.tellicoband.com.
Official video for “Courage for the Morning,” the first track from Woven Waters, and audio links for tracks off the new album can be found here: www.tellicoband.com.
Tellico impresses, as they mine both tradition and contemporary.

There isn’t a misstep on the Woven Waters…Approach with confidence.
–Americana Music Show
“If you want to hear how modern Americana mountain music should sound, here it is.” -Martin Anderson WNCW-FM Spindale, NC
“’Woven Waters’ is a stunning follow-up from one of the most dynamic and interesting bands on the Americana scene. With a clear mastery of the many influences that make the music of Appalachia compelling, and a modern sense of groove that makes the songs impossible to forget – Tellico has firmly inserted themselves into fine company as one of North Carolina’s best bands.”
–Jacob Sharp, Mipso
About John Doyle
Producer John Doyle, best known for innovative guitar work and arrangements in Solas, the Irish-American supergroup, has performed and recorded with some of the most well-known musicians in Celtic music today. Nominated for a Grammy for his album “Double Play” with fiddler Liz Carroll, Doyle has had his hand in an astonishing number of notable recordings and collaborations in the Celtic genre.
Doyle has also worked with some of the most important voices in American folk music including Tim O’Brien, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Joan Baez. He was a core member of the popular “Transatlantic Sessions” recordings with Jerry Douglas, Sara Watkins, Kathy Mattea, and many others. There are few artists more respected, both within Irish music and the broader genre of acoustic music, or more in demand in the studio, as a songwriter, and as a performer. www.johndoylemusic.com.

The band is built on the musical brotherhood that guitarist/vocalist Silas Durocher and bassist Jesse Gentry have formed playing music together since middle school. Durocher, who is a trained composer and has been commissioned to write for symphonies and chamber groups, possesses guitar chops that can soothe or rage and a charismatic swagger as a frontman and a singer. “Durocher has an impressive range and rich clarity to his vocals—think a more soulful Dan Auerbach” (Connect Savannah). Gentry’s virtuosic bass playing “catapults from elastic to nasty” (The Mountain Xpress). With the addition of Jian-Claude Mears, a drummer with “precision, passion, and an inescapable momentum” (Live For Live Music), the group’s sound has become an unstoppable force. They have been wowing audiences around the country and the Caribbean since their inception in 2011 with an unparalleled live show and a relentless tour schedule.
