The Light. When it appears in North it shines with the most golden crystallized frequency. For it to be seen, it has to come forth and penetrate as an equal counterpart for immense darkness that wraps up All in her womb. This short window of visible equilibrium is miraculous – summoning the seer into the space where the counterparts dissolve into One. What is left is the most authentic being where the seer and seen are one and the same.

Footloose
Feb 8 @ 7:30 pm – 10:00 pm
Asheville Community Theatre

Music by Tom Snow; Lyrics by Dean Pitchford; Stage Adaptation by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie

A musical version of the 1984 film! When teenager Ren McCormack moves from Chicago to a small town, he isn’t prepared for the stifling local laws, including a ban on dancing and rock music instituted by the local preacher. As he struggles to fit in, he encourages his classmates to defy the local pastor and call for a rock’n’roll prom. Fist pump!

“Footloose” combines songs from the hit 1984 soundtrack with dynamic new songs – and though it might seem like just a lot of fun, it also celebrates the wisdom of opening minds and listening to the voices of young people. Director Jerry Crouch, music director Lynda Ferrell Shuler, and choreographer Tina Pisano-Foor have put together an incredible cast of students and adults from our community to bring “Footloose” to life!

In the blink of an eye, Bertie is masquerading as a romance novelist, Crumpet’s posing as his own long-lost twin, and a sinister foreign count is challenging Bertie to a duel. Will this madcap case of mistaken identities end in Bertie’s doom–or worse, his marriage? Have no fear; Jeeves will sort it all out.

Todd Cecil and the Back South LIVE at Sanctuary Brewing Co.
Feb 8 @ 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm
Sanctuary Brewing Company

Back South – BACK SOUTH is a trio that hails from Asheville North Carolina in the ancient mountain territory of the Cherokee Native Americans. The rich musical heritage of the area has been the ground for Back South to bridges many southern music styles ranging from Bluegrass and Old Tyme with hints of Spiritual Gospel on the beat of Rock and Blues.

Each song on the new record BackSouth NC, is fired up with Todd Cecil’s unique approach to playing homemade cigar box instruments with a picking style inspired by old Blues masters but taken to a new area. With Mike Fore’s powerhouse electric blues HARMONICA & JUICE HARP and Scott Harte’s heavy driven DRUMS, the trio energized performances always get crowds moving.

Frontman and band founder TODD CECIL, whose instrumentation consists predominately of handmade CIGAR BOX GUITAR in particular the LOWEBOW, which is a guitar and bass in one instrument. Todd has performed and traveled all over the world, with 3 studio records, creating new fans and influencing folks wherever he goes. Todd brings incredible energy and a fun-loving, quirky personality to his every live performances

Moving from Nashville TN to Ashville NC, Todd’s music changed along with the desire for different instrumentation and describes his transformation with:

“I pretty much hid out in the mountains for 6 months and learned how to play the LOWEBOW, –sumthin’ us musicians call ‘woodsheddin’ “

-His musical influences include, Blind Willie Johnson, Ry Cooder, Big Bill Broonzy and the inspiration of a fortune cookie.

MIKE FORE originally from NEW ROADS Louisiana, has an extensive list of bands he has traveled with and music styles that he has drawn from to create his own take on the harmonica. A true virtuoso and powerhouse player, Mikes jawdropping performances always leave audiences in amazement.

Mike adds another flavor to the mix with the JUICE HARP, an ancient instrument that rarely shows it’s face in music today. It is always a crowd pleaser!!!! His influences include Paul Butterfield , Charlie McCoy, Toots Thielemans, Deford Bailey and the sound the door sometimes makes when she is leaving.

SCOTT HARTE on drums provides the backbone for the band along with the train-chug of the washboard to mix it up.
If you must buy him a beer make it a Lager or Pilsner…his time in Germany ruined him for Ales.

Back South performs steadily throughout the southeastern United States with short tours on the West Coast and yearly shows in Europe with concentrations in France and Spain. In 2017, the band intends to expand their performances with tour dates to include more areas of the US and other Countries.

The band is currently kicking up smoke with the just released full-length album entitled BACK SOUTH, NC. The professional recording includes 12 full length songs recorded in studios in both Asheville and Nashville, as well as some basement and hotel room tracks. The record is laced with many tales with such tracks as DARK RAMBLER- a song about a witch hunt in the woods, and BACK SOUTH – the story of a man during a war trying to get back south to the promised land and the woman he left there. Perhaps one of the most unique tracks is a song called ZYDECO HALLIE AND THE ALLIGATOR MOON about a hermit woman living in the swamp with the gators. She is rich and keeps her gold in the ground and when thieves come to steal the gold, the gators make a meal of them.

For crowd pleasing, foot stomping, out-of-the-box talent contact: [email protected]

“The trio sounds as big as a train,
with juke-joint steam
and the rolling thunder of a hurricane…heading Back South…to cause a ruckus.”

Liquid Stranger plus LSDream, Champagne Drip, G-REX, Lucii

The Orange Peel

INFINITY TOUR
Liquid Stranger

Show: 9pm

Ages 18+

Tickets & Info: www.theorangepeel.net/event/infinity-tour-liquid-stranger/

In an ever-evolving universe, the art of maintaining complete and total fluidity is the most necessary key for survival. Renowned for his metamorphic capabilities and expertly crafted sonic adventures, Liquid Stranger has mastered his ability to slip in and out of genres all while honing his own personal style.

Liquid Stranger has earned his reputation for exuding incommensurable talent and taking audiences on a soul-stirring aural journey of genre-bending beats on the dancefloor. He has performed at some of the most innovative events and festivals around the globe including: Shambhala, Bella Terra, Escape from Wonderland, EDC Orlando, Summer Camp, Paradiso Festival, Beyond Wonderland, Inox Park, SXSW, Enchanted Forrest, Elements Festival, Infrasound Equinox, EDC Las Vegas, etc.

In his latest installment, Nomad Vol 2, Liquid Stranger seamlessly blends three tunes- Bounce, Freefall & Zenith- that radiate aqueous harmony, are dripping in luxurious bass and topped off with a splash of funk. The Nomad Series in itself is an excellent representation of Liquid Stranger as an artist as it was created purposefully to push the envelope of genres and create something that could easily satisfy the likes of anyone listening. In accordance to Liquid Stranger himself, “I travel a lot and go through phases of living a somewhat nomadic life style.” He goes on further to explain how much of his inspiration is drawn from these journeys, “and the Nomad series is about taking all these influences and blending them into one sonic stew.”

Liquid Stranger is no alien to the Beatport charts, and has held the #1 spot on numerous occasions and in several different genres including: dubstep, reggae and drum & bass. Over the course of six full-length albums, countless EPS and a plethora of single releases, he’s yielded worldwide hits as diverse as “Ripple” and “Bombaclaad Star”, which reigned supreme as the #1 reggae track of 2011. “Shake My Ass” dominated the drum’n’bass chart at #1, while his third album Private Riot has become a timeless dubstep classic, solidifying him as a force to be reckon with.

In 2015, Liquid Stranger continues to transcend musical dimensions by curating thought- provoking harmonies. This year he has also brought us Wakaan, a label pioneered by Liquid Stranger himself. With the new label he has given free-form compositions and artists a place to thrive. However, what’s next to come is simply unforeseen, as he is a jack-of-all-trades. But one thing is for certain, whatever he brings to the table will be produced mindfully and masterfully to the highest artistic standard.

Those who are unfamiliar with his music often tend to categorize him as only a heavy dubstep artist, which is anything but the truth. The most effervescent quality of Liquid Stranger is his ability to shift from genre to genre all while maintaining a sense of smoothness and consistency, which in turn makes him one of the most unpredictable artists to date. In a sense, he has ended genre barriers for the sake of musical storytelling taking whatever sounds he needs to put forward the intended vibe.

Liquid Stranger’s omnifarious approach to music has led him to stand out amongst a pack of artists desperately trying conform to a commercial demand. Proven to be a timeless staple to the world of electronic dance music by bridging the gap between mellow and heavy, what’s next can not be foreseen for this contrastive musician.
