Caleb Synan is one of the hottest young comics in the country. (Funny AND good looking!) His unique background as a preacher’s kid from a small southern town gives him the ability to relate to any and every crowd — even though he’s a big old millennial who lives in LA. Want proof? He’s performed on CONAN (twice!), Last Comic Standing (once!), and his first Comedy Central special “30” in 2022 (You can watch it on YouTube!)

He’s also entertained our troops in South Korea and Japan. What a guy! It’s no wonder he won the title of “Wittiest” in Franklin County High School’s 2009 Yearbook. He even wrote this bio himself. And he’ll have a margarita with you if you play your cards right.

PLAYFUL | COMING OF AGE | COMEDY

It’s 1973 and 19 year old Linda O’Shea has been tasked by her mother with explaining the birds and the bees to her little sister. Things quickly snowball into crisis after the conversation is overheard by the parish priest. As secrets are unintentionally revealed, it takes every member of the modest, Irish Catholic O’Shea family — from Linda’s quirky younger sister to her sassy aunt — to keep the family’s name in good standing.

The Campfireball: First Timers Club
Jan 11 @ 7:30 pm
Story Parlor

A storytelling show about the audience, The Campfireball is created spontaneously out of whatever stories and lives happen to be gathered together at that moment in time. Workshopped and developed over two years in the master’s program for storytelling at East Tennessee State University and showcased at the 2023 Asheville Fringe Festival, host Cory Howard blends intimacy and absurdity in an effort to shepherd the audience through unique yet reverent ways of drawing out their life experiences. Never possible to know what’s coming next, each Campfireball slowly begins to reveal surprises, connections, and communitas as the space transforms from a room of strangers to a room of neighbors. Worth noting, some people think the premise of The Campfireball sounds “like their worst nightmare”, but participation is never required, the show is just as much fun to sit back and watch unfold as it is to play along, so don’t be afraid to take a risk! Come on out for a night of storytelling you will literally never be able to experience again.

The January Campfireball theme is the ‘First Timers Club’, a night to celebrate all the various firsts in our lives—for better or worse—these moments shaped who we were to become, and are still becoming; first loves, first heartbreaks, first tries, first failures, first time you ever shared a story at The Campfireball, its all fair game in this fast paced ridiculous yet authentic experiment in collective storytelling.

REDEMPTION/TIME
Jan 12 @ 7:30 pm
Gunter Theatre

A new performance work, titled “Redemption/TIME,” brings together acclaimed poet Jimmy Santiago Baca and jazz violin virtuoso Christian Howes in a unique multimedia collaboration under the direction of Dr. David Gonzalez. The project aims to inspire a new generation through the hard-won life lessons of Santiago-Baca and Howes, and to bring their powerful voices to a wide audience through live performances and streaming services.

In “Redemption/TIME,” Baca’s poetic genius intertwines with Howes’ soulful musicality, along with compelling video design, to create a performance work that aims to “inspire, educate, and motivate audiences across the country,” according to Gonzalez.

Both Baca and Howes have powerful stories to tell, with the former having overcome illiteracy and incarceration to become an award-winning poet, while the latter learned valuable life lessons during his time in prison. Their collaboration is a testament to the power of transformation, resilience, and art.
