We’re stoked to be a part of more than 1,400 breweries around the country to brew this beer in support of the Camp Fire victims in California. We’ll be tapping the Resilience IPA on February 20, which is also a special day in the OB family.
Gordon Knight, who’s birthday is February 20, was a close friend of OB Founder Dale Katechis, a brewer, and a helicopter firefighter who died on duty in 2002. Our Imperial Red IPA, G’Knight is named in honor of Gordon. We’ll be celebrating his life, while raising money for the Camp Fire Relief Fund.

Urban Orchard Cider Co. South Slope and Mountain Pet Rescue Asheville have teamed up to put on the fashion event of the year. OK, maybe not that extravagant, but it will be a hoot for sure. It is no secret that we love our furry friends and we invite you to prance yours around for the judges to vote, Asheville’s Best Dressed Pup!
Prizes will certainly be awarded, but the big reason for this event is to get eligible pups adopted and raise some cash for Mountain Pet Rescue Asheville. There is no entry fee to participate in the fashion show, but we have lots of great Asheville raffle items that range from dinner from some of your favorite restaurants to CBD Pup and Parent packages. All proceeds will go to Mountain Pet Rescue. You can buy a ticket for the raffle day of or at either one of our Urban Orchard locations. You do not need to be present to win. Registration for the fashion show ends at 6:30pm and the show will start at 7pm.

Asheville is a wonderfully strange city, but it has a few shadows in its past. Teenager Helen Clevenger was brutally murdered at the luxurious Battery Park Hotel in 1936. William Dudley Pelley called himself “America’s Hitler” and founded his Silver Legion in Asheville. He stirred up enough antiwar propaganda to go to prison. A desperado named Will Harris came into town on a cold night in November 1906 and left a trail of dead bodies and panic among Asheville citizens. Mayor Gallatin Roberts killed himself in the wake of collapsing banks. Asheville native Marla Hardee Milling delves into wicked stories of murder, sedition, corruption, arson and disease.
Marla Hardee Milling is a native of Asheville with ancestors on both sides of her family going back many generations in Western North Carolina. She’s a full-time writer with more than eight hundred published articles and essays. She’s a contributing editor for Blue Ridge Country and a freelance staff writer for Match.com and writes regularly for Capital at Play, Smoky Mountain Living and the Asheville Citizen-Times. Her byline has appeared in a wide range of publications, including Our State, WNC, AAA GO Magazine, Luxury Living, NICHE, American Style, Redbook, Parenting, Health, Kid’s Heath, Women’s Health & Fitness, Denver, Charleston, New Orleans Gourmet, Chocolate for a Woman’s Soul II and many others. She’s written two previous nonfiction books: Only in Asheville: An Eclectic History and Legends, Secrets and Mysteries of Asheville.
We ask that you purchase the books you want to be signed at our events from Malaprop’s. When you do this you are not only supporting the work it takes to run an events program, you are also telling the publishers that they should keep sending authors here. Can’t make it to the store for the event? Call us or order the book on our website in advance, and we’ll get it signed for you. Make sure you write your preferences in the comments if you purchase online.

2014-2017 City Paper Americana Artist of the Year winners The Travelin’ Kine are on the move. This hardworking local outfit has logged serious miles honing their sound: a mix of potent songwriting and fiery country chops, doused with a few shots of whiskey. With the help of a seasoned crew of local talent, singer Slaton Glover delivers a musical message of hellfire and heartbreak, leaving it all on the stage at every performance. Releasing their first album in 2016, the Kine’s first single “Change in the Wind” was voted 2015 CPMA Song of the Year. Their new album “Ride” was recorded at Truphonic Studio and is due out this summer. The Travelin’ Kine amounts to some of the best lowcountry music in years. Catch them if you can!

Aaron Wood is quite the renaissance music man. He grew up steeped in the traditions of blues and folk music of North Carolina. His father has shared the stage with the likes of Bill Monroe and Ralph Stanley and performed at The Grand Ole Opry, taking Aaron with him every chance he got. It didn’t take long before the music took hold, and he studied any kind of music he could get his fingers on.
One look at the long list of artists he has shared the stage with exemplifies his diversity and respect from his musical peers. From Jimmy Martin to Leon Russel, R.L. Burnside to Warren Haynes, Sara Evans to Carlos Santana, Aaron has played with and learned from some of those who have helped shaped music into what it is today.
Each Wednesday features a different performer joining Woody on stage.
