It starts with good songs — lyrics that resonate, melodies that linger, an occasional left turn that stretches the ear… that’s where Tall Tales lives. We’re all over a wide range of American and international influences, and we love to sprinkle that magic dust over a good song just to see where it’ll go. C’mon out and be surprised with us!

In 2018, I used an idea I called my Radical Wellness Plan to hack my life and make it better, and I want to share this process with you! In this group, I’ll teach you how to make your own plan for personal progress, specific to your needs. You can call it whatever you want to.
This is a practice that creates a sense of forward motion or progress that is not dependent on external success markers. With compassionate goal-setting and monthly check-ins, we can gradually improve self-confidence and make the inner mentor a louder voice in our mental landscape.
Bring a pen/pencil and notebook or journal if you want to work on your own plan this evening. Last month we worked on goal setting for the year and for the month of February. This month, I’ll model what a compassionate monthly check in looks like, and we’ll plan goals for the month of March.
This event is free. Donations to Trauma Resource Group are accepted but not expected.
ABOUT US: Trauma Resource Group is an inclusive space for sharing mental health resources, coping strategies, recovery stories, and science about the mind-body-social connection. We welcome survivors of trauma as well as anyone who wants to support the survivors in their life by being better informed.
We recognize that trauma is a nearly universal fact of modern life and that all types of people need support in dealing with past experiences that still impact them today. Together we seek to understand the developmental and neurological patterns that evolved to protect us in crisis, so that we can encourage self-compassion and practice strategies for coping, calming, and healing.
ABOUT THIS EVENT: The purpose of this group is peer support for people who are healing from trauma. This is not therapy, but it’s a place to talk about how therapy is going, get accountability with goals, and get support with your own wellness plan. The circle is a space where anyone can share without being shamed or judged. You are more than welcome to just sit and listen if you don’t want to share. We meet in the back room of the bookstore. Please feel free to purchase tea or coffee at the front counter before you join us.
A word of caution: Please be sure you have a support system in place such as access to a professional therapist. These topics have triggers that may cause flashbacks or other intense emotional experiences. If the work becomes too stressful, please take care of yourself by taking a break and/or asking for support. This group does not provide medical or psychiatric advice, and it is not a substitute for professional help.

You can hear it at RichNelsonBand.com, and you can listen or purchase it on iTunes, Spotify, Bandcamp, Soundcloud and many other sites.
There are also three recent music videos from ‘Ever Since Now’ on YouTube, directed by Luke Nelson.

One of the best bands around right now-like for real!
There are some misconceptions about The Cowboys. The fishing pole on their album cover is not actually going up the naked guy’s backside and though punk and garage music forms a big part of the Bloomington, Indiana band’s sound, they are not technically a punk act. They aren’t even cowboys.

We are supporting Bounty & Soul’s work providing healthy food for our local community by providing them with metal silverware for their food sampling events. These wiill prevent the wastage and expense of disposable spoons and forks.
Bounty & Soul provide samples of delicious plant based foods and education for those members of the community who are receiving donated healthy food. Rather than use plastic spoons and forks for the demonstrations and sampling, Bounty & Sould are finding ways to be more green and sustainable, and we want to help.
We are aiming to collect 80 sets of metal or durable bamboo small spoons and forks through the month of February. Please bring washed used or new silverware to our store and enjoy our thanks and a browse and a cup of fair trade coffee.

The French Broad Riverkeeper and MountainTrue are combating sediment erosion in our local waterways. Sediment is a major polluter in our river basin, clogging fish and aquatic habitats, increasing water temperatures, and transporting toxic substances. We are helping to reduce the amount of sediment that flows into our rivers by planting live-stakes along eroding riverbanks. These stakes will grow into trees that will stabilize the sides of the rivers and creeks where we plant them, and will reduce the overall amount of sediment getting into the river. So, come hop in a boat and help us reduce erosion along our local rivers!

Description: Winter can be the most beautiful time of the year at Chimney Rock. Leafless trees make for expansive views of Lake Lure and the Hickory Nut Gorge. The sky is clear; you’re likely to find a quiet spot to sit and enjoy the peacefulness. You may even see a critter scamper by you in the forest. Capture that special moment or scene on your camera, enter it in our Winter Wonders Photo Contest and tell us about it. We’ll use the winning entries on our website and Facebook album, and you’ll win some fun prizes. Photos must be taken within the Chimney Rock section of the Park.
Cost: No additional cost to enter.

Arthur Morgan School is a day and boarding school in Burnsville, about an hour outside of Asheville, for 7th, 8th, and 9th graders. Each year, students spend 5 weeks learning about a particular topic, then set out for an 18 day field trip to learn about that topic in real life. This year, the class has been studying the history of LGBTQ rights in the US and looking at how queer people all over the world are treated in different countries and cultures.
As a part of the class, students have chosen and researched different historical figures. They are working on making a quilt square dedicated to each figure, and will compile all of these people, along with symbols of LGBTQ positivity, into a complete quilt to present throughout their field trip. At each stop, they will be sharing about the quilt and what they have learned through their studies and travels.
