MUSIC – Thirsty Horses, Classic Rock
Oct 6 @ 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Silver Fork Winery

Our customers and us just can’t get enough of the THIRSTY HORSES!!

Since 2006, the Thirsty Horses have been entertaining audiences from Charlotte to Winston-Salem with a simple formula: harmonies and melodic guitars coupled with songs people know and love.

The Horses have carefully crafted a setlist based on their classic rock influences that include artists from the 60s through today. The Beatles, Stones, CCR, Eagles, Tom Petty, REM, U2, Springsteen, Green Day, the Killers…the list goes on. At a Horses show, it’s not unusual to hear a John Denver song followed by a Cyndi Lauper tune.

Whether you’re a child of the 60s, rocked out in the 90s or fall somewhere in between, the Horses have something for you to sing along to!

Enjoy music with wine and friends!!

Abby the Spoon Lady at the National Storytelling Festival!
Oct 6 @ 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm
International Storytelling Center

This one-of-a-kind studio with the “Spoon Lady,” Abby Roach, and one-man-band Chris Rodrigues will make you feel like you’re inside NC’s lively busking scene. Abby first got into street performance as a way to make money for her travels across the United States by hopping freight trains. She taught herself to play the spoons, eventually becoming an internationally-known street performer, folk percussionist, storyteller, radio personality and free speech activist. Chris, a multi-instrumentalist, has carved out his own unique blues, Appalachian style, playing the resophonic guitar, blowing the harmonica, and singing his takes on traditional songs. Together, they’ll showcase the complex rhythms of modern hobo culture and the music that surrounds it with their stories of busking, riding freight trains, and more. The duo has racked up more than a million video views, been featured in several TV shows and documentaries, and Abby can be heard weekly on FM radio 101.3 Asheville.

Taste of Wilson Reunion Party at Homecoming: Food, Drinks, Music
Oct 6 @ 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Warren Wilson College

Whether it’s been one year since you graduated or more than 40, come celebrate with your friends! Enjoy great food and beverages from some of our beloved alumni, including Hickory Nut Gap meats, Fonta Flora Beer and Frey Wine. Then boogie down with the WWC Alumni All-star Band featuring Ram Mandelkorn ’04, Juan Holladay ’05 and Jesse Barry ’16. Located in Bryson Gym and the Formal Gardens. Cost: Adults, $25; Children 7-12, $12; Children under 6, free.
Register here: https://www.warren-wilson.edu/after-wwc/alumni/homecoming-2018
———————–
Picture this, Bill Mosher pours you a glass of Frey Organic Wine (Eliza Frey ‘04) in the middle of the formal gardens and the two of you reminisce about that India trip in 1999.

Then, as the WWC Bluegrass band plays a fiddle tune, you notice Ian Robertson standing across the lawn with a plate of Warren Wilson College cured chorizo in one hand, and a compostable cup filled with Fonta Flora Beer (Todd Boera ‘08) in the other hand. It’s all very delicious.

The October air is a little crisp as the sun sets, so you head inside and have some tasty gourmet tacos made with Hickory Nut Gap pork and chicken (Amy Ager ’00 and Jamie Ager ‘00), prepared by Green Opportunities.

You’ve finished your glass of Frey wine, so you grab a Devil’s Foot Lemonade, made right here in Asheville. You see Tom Lam and you say hello. You see Rodney Lytle and you say hello… for 23 minutes.

Since your pearly snap-button shirt is already a little tight around the midsection, you take it easy on the second pass at the taco bar. About now, the band comes on stage. You see, you came to get down… to the WWC Alumni All-Star Band, featuring Ram Madelkorn ‘04, Juan Holladay ‘05 and Jesse Barry ‘16. Life is good at the Taste of Awesome. I mean, Taste of WIlson.

Chicks with Hits – Terri Clark – Pam Tillis – Suzy Bogguss
Oct 6 @ 7:00 pm
Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts
Chicks with Hits – Terri Clark – Pam Tillis – Suzy Bogguss @ Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts | | |

TERRI CLARK
Hailing from Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, Terri Clark got her start by playing for tips at Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge, a legendary honky-tonk bar across the alley from Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium. With over 5 million albums sold, critically acclaimed international tours, and hit singles such as “Better Things To Do,” “Poor Poor Pitiful Me,” “Girls Lie Too,” “Northern Girl,” and “I Just Wanna Be Mad,” Terri has solidified her place in the history books of country music. The 3-time JUNO Award winner holds the honor of being the only Canadian female member of the legendary Grand Ole Opry. She has been named CCMA Female Vocalist of the Year five times and has taken home eight CCMA Fan’s Choice Awards. In total, Terri has had the honor of receiving 19 CCMA Awards.

PAM TILLIS
As the child of Country Music Royalty, Pam Tillis was determined from a young age to find her own way in music as a singer and songwriter. Pam Tillis has always insisted on writing and cutting songs that speak from the soul. With 6 number ones and 14 top ten singles, Pam knows all about breaking the platinum barrier. With more than 30 singles charting on US Billboard charts and selling more than 7 Million copies of her studio albums, Pam’s critical acclaim has not diminished. She is currently a reoccurring guest on the TV show “Nashville”, performed an extended run on Broadway in New York in Smokey Joe’s Cafe and is a proud member of The Grand Ole Opry. Pam Tillis’ star continues to shine brightly in the 3rd decade of her career.

SUZY BOGGUSS
During the creative explosion that was country music in the 1990s Suzy Bogguss sold 4 million records with sparkling radio hits like “Outbound Plane”, “Someday Soon”, “Letting Go”, and “Drive South”. In the midst of her country popularity she took time off to make a duets album with the legendary Chet Atkins. In 2003 she made an album of modern swing music with Ray Benson of Asleep At The Wheel. An album of original music in 2007 landed her at number 4 on the jazz charts. Her folk music roots show through in her frequent appearances on public radio’s A Prairie Home Companion, in the Grammy she earned for her work on Beautiful Dreamer: The Songs of Stephen Foster, and in her critically acclaimed album and book project from 2011, American Folk Songbook. So yes, you can call her a country singer if you want, but really that’s just the beginning.
