Smoota’s new album PHEROMONES (releasing November 2 on Body To Body Records) continues his unique musical exploration of sexual desire and its complex intersection with love. The follow-up to his 2013 debut, FETISHES, the album extends his one-of-a-kind blend of honesty, humor and wordplay to shine a light on the beautiful and often mind-boggling displays of lust, devotion, happiness and pain we employ to both fall in love and get it on.

Each full moon we gather from dusk until dawn to celebrate the cyclical, cosmic interplay of life through music, dancing and ritual under open sky. Our purpose is to experience joy, to heal ourselves through movement and to embody the truth of each moment through sound. Every gathering is an opportunity for us to practice living and breathing at a higher vibration, to acknowledge our unity of spirit and to ground this collective experience through our bodies and into our daily lives. We invite you to co-create this experience with us. We share a cultural identity that is rooted in a global, social phenomena beyond specific musical genres or religious associations. As we continue to grow, we will communicate and collaborate with our larger community around the world, celebrating our differences as well as our unified purpose to heal and to manifest The Vibe.

Organ Freeman
While the band takes its format from classic organ trios, Organ Freeman transcends this conventional classification. The three-piece composed of guitarist Erik Carlson, drummer Rob Humphreys, and organist Trevor Steer is primarily rooted in jazz and funk, however the three-piece is unafraid to draw from other genres, sometimes working in propulsive drum ‘n’ bass beats or landing in hard and heavy guitar riffs. Made up of professional studio musicians in Los Angeles, the group came together with the goal to create as much sound as humanly possible from a trio. Rife with synths and layered sounds and no stranger to experimentation, the project has taken the idea of the organ trio and brought it into the future.
Known for their in-the-pocket grooves, tight-laced musicianship, and unrelenting energy, Organ Freeman has only just begun to break out. With the release of 2017’s critically acclaimed ‘Respect My Art’, the band further honed their progressive sound, pushing themselves to go bigger and expand upon their dynamic and fresh compositions. You can catch Organ Freeman on tour, at high-profile events like Summer Camp and The Peach Music Festival, or at iconic venues like The Capitol Theatre and Red Rocks.

Composers Simon George (keyboard and synth bass) and Ram Mandelkorn (guitar) work with three rotating drummers; Claude Colemean Jr.(drummer of Ween) Phill Bronson (previous drummer of Jonathan Scales Fourchestra)and Jaze Uries (drummer of The Broadcast).

OTIS
Drawing from the heavy electric blues of artists like Muddy Waters and Albert King, and stirring in a heavy dose of Southern rock, a la The Allman Brothers Band, Gov’t Mule and ZZ Top, this quartet from South central Kentucky serves up authentic blues rock sound that is at once fresh and steeped in tradition. At the core of the band’s appeal is song craft— delivered by gritty, soulful vocals and a classic twin guitar attack, supported by a pounding rhythm section— that has garnered a rapidly growing fanbase, propelling the group throughout the U.S. and Europe.

Reclaimed Creations is a unique sculpture exhibit created by renowned artist Sayaka Ganz. Utilizing reclaimed plastic objects, such as discarded utensils, Ganz creates amazing sculptures that visually appear unified at a distance, but are in fact separated when examined up close. Described as using a “3D impressionistic” style, Ganz’s exhibit includes installations of animals in motion, which are in rich in color and energy, to create an illusion of form.
About the Artist
Born in Yokohama, Japan, Sayaka Ganz grew up living in Japan, Brazil and Hong Kong. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Indiana University, Bloomington, and a Master of Fine Arts degree in sculpture from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. A lecturer and teacher, Ganz’s work has been displayed at various institutions around the globe, including the Hermann Geiger Foundation in Cecina, Italy, the Isle Gallery in Isle of Man, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California.
My work is about perceiving harmony, even in situations that appear chaotic from the inside. When observing my sculptures up close, one might see gaps, holes and items being held on only by small points; step away, however, and the sculptures reveal the harmony created when the objects are aligned to the same general (but not identical) direction. Similarly, it is important to gain perspective by stepping back from current problems and look at the larger picture. Then one can perceive the beauty and patterns that exist.”

Of course, we are known for our amazing views, but some of the most incredible aspects of this area are often overlooked. Local naturalist Clint Calhoun has spent decades researching and studying what makes the ecology of Chimney Rock State Park and Hickory Nut Gorge so unique. Join him for this moderate hike to learn so much more about what makes our area so special.
We love our visitor’s furry friends, but we do understand that some hike participants may consider animals a distraction on the trail. Pets are not allowed on Naturalist Niche hikes because of this.
Cost: Includes Park admission: $23 Adult, $8 Annual Passholder, $13 Youth (ages 5-15), $6 Rockin’ Discovery Passholder. Advance registration required.

Indies First, held on Small Business Saturday, brings together authors and readers in support of independent bookstores. Authors and local celebrities volunteer at events across the country, and publishers offer special terms on books and exclusives. This year, Indies First and Small Business Saturday take place on Nov. 24, a day which is dedicated to supporting the local businesses that help communities thrive. Some of our favorite local authors ( line up TBA) will be here as booksellers to recommend their favorite picks and help get your gift shopping started. The café will feature special seasonal drinks all day long. What better way is there to burn your pumpkin pie calories than to jump into the holiday season with books? Plus, you’ll have the added bonus of knowing that the money you spend here goes right back into the community.
Stay posted and/or follow us on social media for more details on which authors will be here and what time you can catch them in action!
