MILDRED K BARYA enjoys hiking the Appalachian trails along the Blue Ridge Parkway. When she’s not in the mountains, she’s at UNC-Asheville teaching creative writing and literature. Her publications include three poetry collections: Give Me Room to Move My Feet, 2009, The Price of Memory after the Tsunami, 2006, and Men Love Chocolates But They Don’t Say, 2002. She also has short stories and poems in anthologies, journals and magazines such as Tin House, Poets.org site, Asymptote, Prairie Schooner, Per Contra, Northeast Review and Poetry Quarterly. ASHEVILLE POETRY SERIES is a happening for poets and poetry lovers commencing on the third Monday of each month at seven o’clock in the evening at THE BLOCK off Biltmore in downtown Asheville. The event consists of a reading by the feature poet followed by an open microphone, for which readers may sign up and recite one or two short pieces. During the open portion of the event, we encourage new voices and accomplished poets alike to share what they have been working on in a space where writers have the opportunity to try out new works in front of an audience on a monthly basis. Please join us for consistent, fine poetry in a setting that is equally fine.

Please support our feature writers by purchasing books from them. The bar will remain open after the reading has concluded in order to give poets a chance to mingle and peruse the merchandise.

Produced/hosted by Jeff Davis & Caleb Beissert
