Have you found yourself drawn to Asheville Raven & Crone without quite knowing why? Exploring your spirituality as a lone practitioner, wondering where your path will lead you? Would you like to meet others who are on their own path, or on one similar to yours? Do you have questions but not quite sure where to find the answers?
Join David and Tree as we explore different pathways and journeys, practices and faiths, rituals and celebrations. The Welcoming Circle is open to all faiths, genders, and beliefs. We ask that you join the circle with an open heart and mind, as we discuss and explore our eclectic paths. For further information, contact David Taliesin at www.facebook.com/davidtaliesinauthor. The Welcoming Circle meets the 2nd Sunday of each month and is co-hosted by David Taliesin and Tree Higgins.
This coming Sunday we’re going to open our circle by making altered playing cards which are used to help us set our intentions. There is no cost and everyone will leave with at least one card they made! Don’t miss it!

TOPIC: What do you want to see in a trauma-informed society? What makes communities, groups, and workplaces feel safe? What do you wish your neurotypical friends understood about you?
ABOUT US: Trauma Resource Group is an inclusive space for sharing mental health resources, coping strategies, recovery stories, and science about the mind-body-social connection. We welcome survivors of trauma as well as anyone who wants to support the survivors in their life by being better informed.
We recognize that trauma is a nearly universal fact of modern life and that all types of people need support in dealing with past experiences that still impact them today. Together we seek to understand the developmental and neurological patterns that evolved to protect us in crisis, so that we can encourage self-compassion and practice strategies for coping, calming, and healing.
ABOUT THIS EVENT: Discussions usually start with presentation of information around a specific topic followed by an invitation to share your experience with that topic. This week will be mostly discussion. The circle is a space where anyone can share without being shamed or judged. You are more than welcome to just sit and listen if you don’t want to share. We meet in the back room of the bookstore. Please feel free to purchase tea or coffee at the front counter before you join us. This event is free. Donations to Trauma Resource Group are accepted, but not expected.
A word of caution: Please be sure you have a support system in place such as access to a professional therapist. These topics have triggers that may cause flashbacks or other intense emotional experiences. If the work becomes too stressful, please take care of yourself by taking a break and/or asking for support. This group does not provide medical or psychiatric advice, and it is not a substitute for professional help.

As we step into 2019 ,there is still a substantial amount of unrest in the world. Yogi Bhajan said we would get though these times. By gifting us with his teachings and kundalini yoga so many years ago, we now have the tools to carry us through so that we might help others do the same. Kundalini yoga has given me an inner strength to move forward, as a healthy, happy,(w)holy human and I hope to share it with you.
Please come and dive into this series as we focus on developing a neutral mind and a fully open heart. In this we can find grace, compassion, courage, inner peace and embrace all that is available to us to change our world within and around us.
This is a great place to start if you have never tried Kundalini Yoga. If you have questions [email protected] or 828-606-4092

Often seen performing with folk icon Tom Rush, Singer/Songwriter Matt Nakoa returns to ISIS Music Hall on his own for an exciting evening of music.
Matt Nakoa grew up on a small goat farm in New York State and began composing music as a teenager. Following a formative stint as a classical pianist, Matt won scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston. There he studied alongside soon-to-be Grammy winners St. Vincent and Esperanza Spaulding among others. After college, Matt toured with his band, The Fens, and eventually landed in New York City’s vibrant piano bar scene. Matt quickly became a star performer at Manhattan’s Brandy’s Piano Bar, with lines outside the door each Saturday night.

Broadway’s hit crowd-pleaser takes you to the stoops of the Bronx in the 1960s – where a young man is caught between the father he loves and the mob boss he’d love to be.
Bursting with high-energy dance numbers and original doo-wop tunes from Alan Menken, the songwriter of Beauty and the Beast, A Bronx Tale is an unforgettable story of loyalty and family.
Academy Award® winner Robert De Niro and Tony® winner Jerry Zaks direct this streetwise musical – based on Academy Award nominee Chazz Palminteri’s story – that The New York Times hails as “A Critics’ Pick! The kind of tale that makes you laugh and cry.”

There’s something somewhat frightening, yet utterly liberating when leaving the confines of a successful band to venture solo — especially a band whose latest record was called “effortlessly brilliant” by critics. But, such is the case with Erika Wennerstrom who is taking a break from her Austin-based rock band, Heartless Bastards, to deliver her solo debut Sweet Unknown. Isis Music Hall is pleased to welcome Erka back to our stage.
Brie Capone will be opening the night with an acoustic set.
A Soul-Folk singer/songwriter from Asheville, NC. With a mix of introspective and passionate, unique vocals, Brie Capone is true original.

QuickChester Album Release Show at The Grey Eagle
with The Flying Oatsmen
QuickChester began their musical journey in Asheville, NC in 2012. Lead guitarist, Paul Quick, and rhythm guitarist, Mark Chester, began developing songs written by Chester, as they also explored their mutual interests in other recording artists. Over time they built a lengthy song list consisting of original and cover tunes, and stepped out into the public, playing restaurants and coffee shops around the Asheville area.
Paul Quick began playing guitar at thirteen, and was soon playing in bands, first with “The Epics” in Waco, TX, then later in Baton Rouge, LA, eventually recording with the band “Louisiana” in Memphis, TN at Ardent Studios. Moving to Asheville in the Eighties, he performed guitar and vocals for “The Back Pages,” prior to connecting with Mark. He also currently plays in “The Lost Chord,” a Moody
Blues tribute band.
Mark Chester began playing guitar at age 14, but never performed in a band until 2002 when he joined The Flying Oatsmen (Atlanta, GA) at the age of 45. Taking an interest in percussion, he began playing congas under the tutelage of Count M’Butu (Aquarium Rescue Unit, Derek Trucks Band). Mark moved to Asheville in 2008, working on his guitar skills and song writing. Mark has performed with Col. Bruce Hampton, Rev. Jeff Mosier, and still performs with The Flying Oatsmen to this day.
In 2018, QuickChester began work on their first CD, featuring songs written by Chester, and featuring the guitar stylings of Quick, and the dreamy vocal harmonies of Alicia Knighten. Working with Producer, Russ Wheelock of Bull Creek Studios in Asheville, the sound began to grow beyond folk and soft rock. With the help of wheelock’s ear and imagination, the songs began to morph, exploring the realms of funk, hard rock, and jam. The band also began to grow with the addition of Kate Barber (The Lost Chord) on flute, and Ed Barber on bass guitar. Before long, the recordings began to bubble over with Kate’s distinctive flute stylings.
The CD, “Cocoon,” is scheduled to be released in January of 2019. It features all original songs played by Quick, Chester, Barber and Wheelock, with help from Laura Smith on fiddle and Darren Goot (Flying Oatsmen) on drums. The CD also includes the brilliant slide trombone of Daniel Wytanis (Col. Bruce Hampton, Grut), and saxophone by Chris Suarez (El Donuts).

We are supporting Bounty & Soul’s work providing healthy food for our local community by providing them with metal silverware for their food sampling events. These wiill prevent the wastage and expense of disposable spoons and forks.
Bounty & Soul provide samples of delicious plant based foods and education for those members of the community who are receiving donated healthy food. Rather than use plastic spoons and forks for the demonstrations and sampling, Bounty & Sould are finding ways to be more green and sustainable, and we want to help.
We are aiming to collect 80 sets of metal or durable bamboo small spoons and forks through the month of February. Please bring washed used or new silverware to our store and enjoy our thanks and a browse and a cup of fair trade coffee.

Winter can be the most beautiful time of the year at Chimney Rock. Leafless trees make for expansive views of Lake Lure and the Hickory Nut Gorge. The sky is clear; you’re likely to find a quiet spot to sit and enjoy the peacefulness. You may even see a critter scamper by you in the forest. Capture that special moment or scene on your camera, enter it in our Winter Wonders Photo Contest and tell us about it. We’ll use the winning entries on our website and Facebook album, and you’ll win some fun prizes. Photos must be taken within the Chimney Rock section of the Park.
Cost: No additional cost to enter.
