UNCA plans to build a 200-space parking lot on Edgewood next to Covenant Reformed Presbyterian on land recently purchased. We are meeting to oppose building new fossil fuel infrastructure and to collect litter from the bushes in that space, to show that this area is not a sacrifice zone, that we care for it, and that UNCA has no business promoting itself as a “green” university while it is still building new fossil fuel infrastructure.
Meet on campus of UNCA (steps of the library) at 6:30 and walk over to the space next to Covenant Reformed Presbyterian at 6:45.
Please wear clothes that can get moderately dirty. We will bring receptacles for recyclables and trash. Please bring gloves if you have any yard/work gloves for safety. We will bring some extra pairs. Light physical activity.

Chicago Don hosts the AGB Stage for our Big City Blues Jam. Come sign up to play!
Chicago, Detroit, New York. Bright lights. Big city. Get mesmerized in the sound of Big City Blues. Clear, sharp melodies on horns and harps contrast the deep, rich back beats of the electric bass. Keyboard riffs battle electric guitars that are on fire, and classic blues drum beats drive home the groove. Lose yourself in a night of soulful music reminiscent of Freddie King, Charlie Robison, Billie Holiday, Luther Allison in the smoke filled dance halls of the past.

‘Fizzing with freshness’ – BBC
‘Sunkissed psychedelia and irresistible hooks, with the band’s soul, funk and blues influences thrust joyously to the fore… If you thrilled to the Black Keys’ El Camino, it’s time to meet your new favourite band ‘- Guardian
Released in June 2014 via Earache Records, Great Western Valkyrie puts Rival Sons freewheeling fuzz and improvisational stage ethos to wax and cements their position as America’s next great rock’n’roll band. With a ‘conscious decision for this band to be just what it is’ (Jay Buchanan) this album is more cohesive than any Rival Sons album before.
From the beach cities of Southern California, the time was ripe for Rival Sons. Guitarist Scott Holiday had long been searching for something that would fit his psychedelic vision and fuzzy garage rock tones, then things fell into place when blues singer/songwriter Jay Buchanan put the solo career on the backburner and gave rock ‘n’ roll a chance. Scott Holiday: ‘a random find on the Internet points me to Jay Buchanan. In 13 seconds I realize I have just come across the singer I’ve looked for over the last 10-12 years of my life.’
Jay was invited to record vocals on the band’s debut release ‘Before the fire’ ‘Singing On My Way in a single take. We never even ran tape a 2nd time. That was a first to witness for me. And so it was born… Rival Sons.’
Four albums on, with an ever-growing fan base the band go from strength to strength and have never looked back.

Steve Forbert
“Big City Cat – My Life in Folk-Rock,” singer/songwriter Steve Forbert’s exceptional new memoir co-written with Therese Boyd, allows him ample opportunity to candidly reflect on those specific circumstances that first brought him to the public eye.
Originally conceived as a stage play and screen treatment, it finds him documenting his early adventures in the big city while pursuing his quest to make music. Sharing reflections and journals he kept at the time, he weaves an absorbing narrative that fully documents the trials, travails and triumphs that would eventually play out over the course of his prolific 40 year career.
The book is accompanied by its own soundtrack as well, an A+ new album entitled The Magic Tree that offers a series of songs gleaned from previously recorded acoustic demos, overdubbed with new backing tracks and fleshed out as a series of songs that ring with the verve and vitality that Forbert’s fans have always come to expect. Consistently upbeat and optimistic, they convey a firm sense that age ought not diminish a lust for living. Then again, that’s been Forbert’s mantra for quite some time—honoring his past while plowing his way towards the future.
