The Transylvania Farmers’ Market will be holding a Customer Appreciation Day this Saturday morning from 8am–12pm to thank customers for their tremendous support!
“This past year has been our best year yet and we couldn’t do it without our amazing customers,” says Transylvania Farmers’ Market Manager Leslie Logemann. “They come out to support our farmers and vendors every week, rain or shine, in hot or cold weather. This Saturday, we’d like to give a little something back to show our appreciation.”
The morning’s event includes:
• FREE drawings for Market goodies! Try your luck at the Market Info Booth and you might just take home an item from one of our vendors or a farmers’ market tote bag, perfect for taking home your market purchases.
• A Little Thank You Gift! The Market Manager has been baking… stop by the Market Info Booth for a little edible thank you.
• A Cake Walk! Starting at 9:00am, you won’t want to miss the fun of an old-fashioned cake walk… or the delicious baked goods you’ll take home if you win! The Cake Walk will be set up right in front of the Market Info Booth with a new game starting every half hour or so.
• LOTS of vendors selling locally-produced products, seasonal products, and a wide array of great holiday gift items.
• Let’s talk turkey with a fun craft at the Kids’ Corner!
With a focus on the bounty that Transylvania County has to offer, the Market has a wide variety of vendors offering fresh, locally-grown produce, meat, eggs, honey, cheeses, vinegars, mustards, mushrooms, fermented products, pickles & bbq sauces, plants, herbs, cut flowers, baked goods, jams & jellies, hot breakfast and coffee, fresh juices & cider, prepared foods, and a variety of handcrafted and artisan items. Throughout the season, the Market hosts weekly music and events.

Reclaimed Creations is a unique sculpture exhibit created by renowned artist Sayaka Ganz. Utilizing reclaimed plastic objects, such as discarded utensils, Ganz creates amazing sculptures that visually appear unified at a distance, but are in fact separated when examined up close. Described as using a “3D impressionistic” style, Ganz’s exhibit includes installations of animals in motion, which are in rich in color and energy, to create an illusion of form.
About the Artist
Born in Yokohama, Japan, Sayaka Ganz grew up living in Japan, Brazil and Hong Kong. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Indiana University, Bloomington, and a Master of Fine Arts degree in sculpture from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. A lecturer and teacher, Ganz’s work has been displayed at various institutions around the globe, including the Hermann Geiger Foundation in Cecina, Italy, the Isle Gallery in Isle of Man, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California.
My work is about perceiving harmony, even in situations that appear chaotic from the inside. When observing my sculptures up close, one might see gaps, holes and items being held on only by small points; step away, however, and the sculptures reveal the harmony created when the objects are aligned to the same general (but not identical) direction. Similarly, it is important to gain perspective by stepping back from current problems and look at the larger picture. Then one can perceive the beauty and patterns that exist.”
Join the museum for the final hike of the Swannanoa Rim Hike Series to the Garden of Eden. This rocky mountaintop is located one mile northwest of Lake Eden on the Swannanoa Rim. In the summer months its rocky top was famous for its sunning serpents (rattlesnakes and copperheads) and it why this segment of the rim is hiked in the winter. This loop hike begins at Camp Rockmont for Boys climbs to Cedar Cliff and the Garden of Eden and returns to Rockmont.

Individuals, groups, and families are welcome to sign up (on a first come basis) and be partnered with veteran Trail Maintainers to spend the day having a hands on experience working to rehabilitate the trail in a sustainable condition for generations to come. No experience necessary! You will be matched with a skilled maintainer according to your interests and abilities. You will spend the weekend on a beautiful section of trail while working on the fabled A.T. The work group will be limited to about 30 participants.
Pre-registration is required by signing up on the below link. Youth of all ages are welcome, but must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. CMC will provide safety instructions, supervision, training, and tools for the tasks you are assigned.

Travel Logistics:
We will meet at the USFS National Forests office (Take exit 25 from US 26) at 160 Zillicoa St. in Asheville, NC at 8 am Saturday Nov. 17th, where you will check in and sign a work waiver. All minors must be accompanied by an adult who will sign a waiver for them. After a short safety briefing, introductions, and work details we will group up for car pools to head to the site. We will need some of the volunteers to drive groups to our work site. The parking lot in front of the building is a safe place to leave your car for the weekend.
It takes about 1hr 15 min to travel to the site, which is Hurricane Gap near Hot Springs NC. The last six miles are a gravel road which is in good condition and accessible by personal vehicles.
Work Site Logistics
It is a 1.7 m hike in to the Spring Mountain shelter with 600 ft of elevation gain. We will drop our gear there. Please wear long pants, sturdy boots, work gloves, and bring safety glasses if you have them. No open toed shoes or shorts will be allowed.
