May 25 @ 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
varies

The Garden Jubilee 2020 Nurseries & Orchard Tour will run from May 22 – 25, Friday through Monday of Memorial Day Weekend, from 9 am – 5 pm daily, to spread the public out over several days to avoid large crowds. The modifications to the Garden Jubilee 2020 Nurseries & Orchard Tour will follow federal and state mandated guidelines for cleaning, social distancing and limiting crowd size.

Local and nurseries will be selling annuals, perennials, vegetables, herbs and hard-to-find plants. The orchards will be offering produce, jams, jellies, honey, cider and baked goods. As an added feature some of the nurseries and orchards will host a couple of craft or other garden related themed vendors at their location

A brochure will be created with a map and listing the participating Henderson County nurseries and orchards. The information will be featured on the HCTDA web site, including a downloadable version of the brochure, for easy navigation. Check the web site often for updates of businesses participating.

Local actor/comedian Tom Chalmers invites you to take part in what is quickly becoming one of Asheville’s most popular series, Listen to This. A storytelling format in the vein of “This American Life,” Listen to This is an evening hosted by Chalmers with stories and songs from some of Asheville’s most interesting writers, performers, and citizens. Each installment features a central theme (past shows have featured stories about everything from gluttony to mistaken identity). Real people. Real stories. Real good times.

Flat Rock Playhouse Cancels 2020 Season

“We are heartbroken to have to make this decision,” said producing artistic director Lisa K. Bryant. “With state-mandated limitations on gathering sizes for the foreseeable future, as well as recent information that union rules for actors returning to work may not even be issued until summer, it is now clear we cannot reopen in mid-July as we had hoped. The right decision for the long-term health of the Playhouse and for our patrons is to move the entire 2020 season to 2021.” This decision was ratified unanimously by the Playhouse Board of Trustees.

Asheville Community Theatre: Little Women online!
May 30 @ 7:30 pm
online

Home Background Image

When we closed our doors due to COVID-19, we thought we might be closed for 3-4 weeks. We quickly moved to online rehearsals for Little Women and three different Youth Production Classes, thinking that we might be able to get these productions onstage as soon as it was safe to reopen.

But we’ve realized that the better place to present these plays will be online. And so rehearsals shifted: instead of practicing to be on the stage, we started practicing to be on the screen.

Instead of working on stage movement, actors are noting their posture and distance in regards to their webcam. Lighting is asking an actor to re-position a floor lamp instead of having a lighting designer create intricate cues that change at the push of a button. Even in this seemingly disconnected space, actors are connecting beautifully to each other, to the script, and to the characters.

And so, next Saturday, we will present Little Women from the homes of our actors directly to YOUR home! Tickets are free. Once you register for the event, you will receive a unique link to view the livestream!
