Why should you come to a pad holding workshop? Here are some reasons why..
1. If you are currently training in Muay Thai.
2. To be a better training partner
3. Take your training to the next level.
4. Fundamentals are key in any sport whether you’re competing or just a hobbyist.
Alex Tyler will teaching the pad holding workshop.
He will be going over the basics and fundamentals on holding pads for your training partner.
Thai pads are a tool that are often over looked, both in terms of their value as a training tool, but also in how much skill and training going into holding them. When were holding the pads in class were training ourselves and our partners. Knowing how to hold pads properly will really take the skill level of the whole gym up, because when were holding the Thai pads properly, will be training ourselves and our partners, in a fight context with reduced risk to injury.
First will go over how to hold for all your basic techniques; kicks, teeps, knees, and punches, along with some different variations.
Next will go over some ways we can, and how/when we should give back some resistance towards our partners.
After that will talk about how you can train yourself when holding pads, and introduce the concepts of forcing correct placement, keeping them honest, and keeping it realistic.
Lastly, will go over the difference between holding for combination striking and more free flowing target recognition striking.

Hey you beautiful birds! Let’s meetup before the show in Asheville.
Put your wings together for two amazing Asheville businesses who FLOCK.
BANKS AVE is looking forward to hosting us preshow on Feb 1st. This joint is an Asheville locals fav, has a capacity of up to 240, has both beer and liquor with great prices, and is happy to let us hijack the music. Banks Ave is a short walk to the Orange Peel and has enough room for all of us and for…
Jean-Michel Werk to bring his business @PongAvl to set up Ping Pong tables for us.
Banks Ave is at the downtown edge of the South slope. It has no kitchen which means two things: Firstly it means we can bring in food from (next door) Asheville’s award winning chef’s (Elliott Moss) Buxton Hall or from anywhere else in town (including a nearby food truck, pizza, etc). It does also mean that according to NC law we must be members which will only cost $1 and the prices at Banks are great so you’ll make that up on your first beverage.

In some ancient cultures, it was customary for travelers to leave home carrying a small plant. The message was: “Don’t ever forget where you came from. Always stay rooted.” Building on this eternal truth, The 5Rhythms® offer us a way to find freedom through rootedness. Drawing upon Shamanic and Sufi sacred traditions, the rhythms are a powerful and deceptively simple way to transform ourselves into the fullest embodiment and manifestation of our essential selves. What are your roots? How can we reconnect with our roots and bring ourselves back home again?
The 5Rhythms® of flow, staccato, chaos, lyrical and stillness are the roots of this practice, and by deepening these roots we will cultivate greater awareness by listening to, moving our bodies, and expanding our body vocabulary. These roots offer us access to the infinite source of wisdom within, thus strengthening our own sense of freedom and homecoming.
About Visudha
Weaving shamanic experience into 5Rhythms teachings, Visudha offers herself to this practice with deep, deep gratitude to the many dances, the many lights, the many transformations she has experienced, and also witnessed. She brings, with one foot in this world, and one in the other world, clear insight, strong presence and a gentle spirit.

Western Carolina Writers- featuring Thomas Yon, Jesse Frizell and Nick Mac.
With a shared passion for music and a knack for writing lyrics that stick to the ribs, the Western Carolina Writers take you on an emotional roller coaster from start to finish. From reminiscing an old love while drinking “beer in the shower” to cutting you deep with “Fail at failing” to throwing em back and getting “boozed and nasty”, this trio of songsmith’s covers all the bases. So pick your poison and saddle up, and if you should find yourself wooing like Ric Flair by the end of the night well, you’ll have the WCW crew to thank for that.
