A.X ~ Aloes ~ Oariana ~ Crystalline
at The Mothlight
Free Mothlight Monday, April 8th
*no cover*
Doors 8pm, Show 9pm
A.X. – Ben Asbury’s (Axxa/Abraxas) experimental/electronic/lo-fi electropop solo project.
Aloes – Aloes is the latest solo project engineered by the zealous, yet inscrutable musical mind of Reid Weigner. While Weigner is Atlanta-bred and has recently found his way back to his Georgia roots, he spent the majority of his career-formative years in Asheville, N.C. It was here in 2013 that he earned his B.A. in Music (percussion, composition) from UNC Asheville and where he began playing percussion for effervescent dance-rockers Reptar and instrumental math rockers Hello Hugo. In recent years, he has lent his percussive hand to Asheville acts Axxa/Abraxas, Aunt Sis, Curt Castle, and led his own heavily percussed ensemble Giant Giants (now Organs of Sight) while sharing stages with the likes of Zammuto, Palm, Mothers, Frankie Cosmos, and Joan of Arc. Aloes is now delivering unearthly, cybernetic vibes to us on the synth heavy debut album I (Ingrown Records: March 2019). Tracks like “SciTrek” and “Percentage Points” evoke tantalizing emotions of imminent peril we didn’t know could be so damn fun. Sometimes there’s a fine line between utter bliss and total despair and Aloes is here to make sure those emotions remain blurred in the most enchanting way imaginable.

“We are all connected to one another and to the mystery at the heart of the universe through our strange and marvelous ability to create words. When we write, we create, and when we offer our creation to each other, we close the wound of loneliness and may participate in our broken world. Our words, our truth, our imagining, our dreaming may be the best gifts we have to give.”
-Pat Schneider, Poet and Writer
People write for many reasons; beneath most forms of writing lives a common desire: to find and express our unique voice. Over the next three days, you are invited into a process of reflective writing as a means of self-discovery and care. There will also be ample free time for relaxation, exploring the beautiful North Carolina Smoky Mountains, greeting the sun with a restorative yoga session, and enjoying delicious food and company.
Our retreat leaders will hold space for you, honor your time and reflective process over the course of the retreat, and walk with you as you mine the rich depths of your soul through the creative process.
